Great work JOK3RX
Greetings
Urs
Dude.. You da man!! You're contributing some great high-gain circuits. Thank you for your hard work... Us high gain freaks have quite a few options because of you. You should make a folder in the gallery of all your works if it wouldn't be too much trouble.. I think I've got most of them on my hard drive.
Thanks again! :icon_twisted: Chug chug chug weeedly weeedly chun chun :icon_twisted:
You are on a roll man. These accessory boards are nice too! Just a detail: The protection diode is upside done on the power board!

Thanks man! I corrected the protection diode... :icon_redface: Sometimes copy paste is your enemy, especially when you're tired. Didn't really need it since I already have a protection diode on the preamp but, if I power any other board besides the preamp like a cab sim better to have it at the source.
I thought I would revisit this ENGL build and I fell in love with it!! This thing rivals the TM with the gain and I think I like the tone better also! This one sounds really good with the neck pickup where the TM doesn't do so well. I will post some clips, soon... I am also really diggin the Laboga Mr.Hector too! Both brutal as hell!
By the way, did you get your tight metal built, curious?

Thanks man! I have a gallery acct setup but I haven't started using it yet... I will. Thanks all you guys for the nice comments! :icon_wink:
Nice one. Have to try it :)
Here is what I am shooting for... Probably some mistakes but I will sort them out. Will be able to use it for all preamp PCB's that mount like this. By the way.. this is looking down from the top of the pedal perspective.. The empty space on the board by the input jack will have switches and pot connectors for presence, noise gate etc.. I haven't put them on there yet :icon_wink: talk about jam packed in a 1590BB, damn!

ok, here's the rest of the mess... seems not much interest but I'll post it anyway :P
Really BIG version

Here's a quick sound sample going direct using the cabsim... Has a kinda stuck wah tone to it, the sweep pot really lets you dial up a wide array of tones. I am only using the preamp layout in the last post with the noise gate and the cabsim, not the full board with the output jacks... I haven't tested that yet. I am using a little bit of VST delay and that's it.
Playing suxs but that's the price I pay for buildin these silly things.. never get to practice :-\

Edit: Sorry for the big @ss images but they distort if I make them smaller...
Hi JOK3RX,
please post the transfer for the cab/out/3PDT pcb.
It´s really a "everything you need" package.
How does this type of gate work? It seems quite simple compared to some I've seen.
Also...how did you come about those drain and source resistors for the mosfet stages? I'm working on a mosfet design myself so I'm looking for any and all ideas to try.
Sorry for up but, have any got the layout or schematics??? Thanks ; )
Hi JOK3RX! Is there any chance to get the schematic back online? I really appreciate your work and this is an interesting project to try on vacation. Greetings and happiness from Chile.

J0K3RX I'm sorry... I've just found the schematic in Aron's gallery. Amazing design. Thank you!

Hi.
Any chance for SE board layout?
Thx.
T.
bump :)
I have just finished building Screamin Eagle. Still need some tweaking, maybe swapping jfets. Noise gate affects sound a little bit when pot is at max (eating some gain?).

Edit: never mind, found schem and layout
Any chance the parts layout file can be uploaded to the gallery too? I have been working backwards from the schematic to the PCB on there but it is slow and tedious. As far as I can tell only the transfer and schematic are on there.
Thanks J0k3rx!
So... I've made short comparison of two sets of J201s. First set - TO92 package, bought from aliexpress. Vgs ~ -1.9V. Second set - SOT23 MMBFJ201, bought them from TME, Vgs ~ -0,7-0,8V.
There are 6 samples. All settings the same, except gain knob. First sample - TO92, second sample SOT23, #3 - TO92, etc..
Picture is worth a thousand words

Cool temol! Thanks for posting that - will listen when I get home (working overnight tonite)...
What did you do for the noise gate wiring? It looks like from your picture you mounted the switch on a small daughter board? Is there a PCB layout for that? Did you ever get a parts layout? I am still working on mine, but that is the part I am stuck on.

Yep.. there is a daughter board for the noise gate. I have a PCB layout (finally found (https://www.guitarristas.info/foros/muestras-sonido-messa-soldano-krank-engl-vht/88517/pagina4#post1805341) it).

That layout had some problems with the fx-loop if I remember correctly. I have new layouts for it that are greatly improved.. May post if I ever get any spare time..
I updated the gallery with a newer layout that has the gate partially on-board except for the pot and switch. Don't really need the switch if you turn the gate pot to the off position..

You can try a 2N5457 for the first J201, might have a little less noise but not overly noticeable... Different JFET's for the other two will not make a noticeable difference to the overall gain or tone. There were some other mods like the post gain mod and some other tweaks I had but will have to look for them when I have more time..
This guy builds them with all of the mods that I had a couple years ago and seems like he does really well with it.. Some people were asking me how a person would fit it all in an enclosure and what size enclosure etc... Well, here's your answer :icon_wink:
OMFG distortion heaven <3
J0K3RX - thanks for the layout and for the tips. I'll give it a try. I do not need fx-loop so jumpered it.
In the meantime.. SE boxed and ready.

Looks great man! What layout did you use? Just asking because one of the earlier layouts had a mistake that can be easily fixed by cutting 1 trace.

Thanks. It was the one with noise gate daughter board, separate board for power and fx-loop. You can check it here (https://www.guitarristas.info/foros/muestras-sonido-messa-soldano-krank-engl-vht/88517/pagina4#post1805341)

Hello J0K3RX !!! I made this pcb, I need to do the wiring and I do not know how the noise gate is connected without the external board, in G1 and G2 is the potentiometer directly connected?

Alsassius - Yup, just connect G1 to lug1 and G2 to lug2 if I remember correctly.. :icon_rolleyes:
Please forgive me if I missed the memo but, does anybody know what happened to the Aron Nelson gallery? :(
Found this demo a while back with Screamin Eagle running through the DSM Noisemaker OmniCab and I likes what I hear!! :icon_twisted:
I have made a few improvements on it since it was first posted.. may post them if I get any time. :icon_evil:
the galleries of Aron Nelson were fine a few days ago. Yesterday finished the screamin eagle, but with the low gain it sounds like fuzz and if I increase the gain you hear a very intense beep when I do not play the guitar, I think it's the transistors of poor quality. Here in Argentina there are many imitations. This afternoon I'll check it with more time. Ah, the sound with the maximum gain is brutal! never my fly3 sounded so good haha

Sorry for reviving a dead thread.
I cannot find the pcb transfer file for this build.
Appreciate it if anyone can share it with me.
