Title: What to do with a dead Mu-Tron 1171 Digital Delay line?
Post by: mrsuspend on November 07, 2014, 05:09:27 PM

So.. I have an old Mu-tron 1171 Digital Delay Line which is completely DOA. That is, it lights up but only passes signal on the dry out.
I guess nothing can be done as I haven't been able to find any schematics and even if I did it's a lot of work. So the question is what to do with it, are there any components worth salvaging, or would anyone want it for parts? I'm hesitant to just throw it away since it's a quality piece of kit.

Thanks!

A gutshot (for what it's worth, it's quite big so better with just a link ):

I think it's that black one to the left Assar, nice to see someone from Nollberga here.

I'd check power supplies and all those wires just to be sure it's not something that could be easily corrected, such as a broken wire or shorted electrolytic cap.

As I mentioned to Govmnt Lackey/Greg, who PM:ed me when the board was misbehaving, when I got the delay I noticed the power cord was frayed and broken. I asked the previous owner if he'd actually used it like that and he said "sure, I just wiggled the cable a bit". So the problem may well be in the power section.
I'll try to check voltages as soon as I can find time this week.

Just to update; I finally got around to this and the voltage regulators all seem to work (they output 12, 12, and 5 volts respectively).
However, I now noticed I do get some odd oscillations on one of the delay settings, which is nice but considerably harder to pinpoint.
When I have the time (again) I'll trace as much as I can with an audio probe and see where it gets me.
