Title: Transistor Equivalent
Post by: Davide on May 06, 2004, 01:57:08 PM
Hi ! i've seen in many schematics it's often used the 2N5088 NPN transistor.
Here it's terrible hard to find.. i've heard BC383, BC549 , BC550 etc can be considered good workalike.. is it true ? Has someone tried'em ?

Yeah, you can sub 5088's with bc549C's all day.

Another good 2N5088 equivalent.. ?

You can try any npn with hfe over 500. BC547/548/549/550 from the C series shoud do the trick, but only the 550 has the same noise figure of the 5088. Another sub is the BC169, you can even try a bc108/109C. Other than that, you can go the nte way, but those parts are expensive and with more *random* specs. I´m not familiar with 2SBxxxx transistors, but you should find some equivalent to the ´88.

Saluti dall'Argentina ;)

Edit: The BC237/238/239 series is also usable.

From the faq: "From R.G.Keen:

2N5089 will work in most instances. Also useful are 2N5210, 2N4401, BC549."

I asked it because i order transistors in a website... all transistors are in 1-5 pieces per packet... but BC549 minimum number is.. 2000  ...
i'm not going to spend 50â,¬ to buy a Kg of transistors  :D  !

Thank you again !!!

Another equivalents question :)   :

i'm going to build Dod Fx-86...  there's a  K30A transistor (a mosfet i think..) that i'm not able to find... some alternatives :) ?

Thank you !!

If it is a 2sk30, it's a fet, and you can sub it with almost any common fet. Check out the faq, but a few that come to mind are mpf102, bf245a, 2n5457/58, j201, etc.

BC264 works well as 2SK30A substitute. Check for different pin-out.
I used this one in many projects, with no problems.
