Title: "Crosstown Traffic" intro
Post by: rockgardenlove on June 05, 2006, 08:23:06 PM
How might I get that tone like on the intro/lead to Hendrix's "Crosstown Traffic?"  Is it just a FF or what?  My FF is just too grainy...doesn't sound like an Octavia either...?  Neither my Fender tube or my Peavey C30 can get that tone either...

Any tips?

Take a deep breath, and break out a kazoo :)

I was erm, just kidding ;)

How would I get it on guitar though?  That super saturated fuzz?

The lead part was tracked with guitar (with Fuzz Face I think), a kazoo*, and Jimi humming/singing "doo doo..." all on the same note.

*Actually a comb and tissue paper.

Yeah, I noticed the vocal dubbing, but not the kazoo...
Anyone got a idea on how to get a a kazoo sound then?
I have a FF.

I remember this thread:

I built the TB MK II using the schem at GGG and it gets pretty kazoo like.  I didn't use the trannies RDV talks about in that thread, but I guess they make it kazoo-ier.

Another possibility might be the Tripple Fuzz.  It's pretty crazy, but I suspect you could tune it to be more kazoo-like.

Alex is correct, it's a mix of gtr/Kazoo/Humming ( or just humming through comb/tissue paper )
I have the original 4 track version somewhere ( don't ask me how or who !! ) which has the
drums bounced with piano, backing vocal on the bass track and everything else on the other two !!
The guitar part isn't as "dirty" as you would think BTW :D

I'm pretty shure it's not just one guitar, there are at least 2 or 3 guitars overdubbed, maybe more, that's what gives this full-on sound.
