Title: dicrete comparator?
Post by: rnfr on July 07, 2008, 11:24:13 PM
is it possible to use the discrete opamp in a comparator fuzz circuit like craig anderton's UltraFuzz or this circuit?:

or is it not really made for this type of app?

Probably it's possible.  But it seems like a lot of effort for very little return, if any.  Square wave fuzz doesn't really care what devices you use, the end result is pretty much the same.  (In my opinion)

i was wondering if it would make this pedal a little bit more tweakable by varying some of the components in the op amp?

It's simple enough you could breadboard it in 5 minutes and find out.

Some related threads..

This guys says it works:

i think this is a very synthy fuzz which is what i like but what i always really wanted is the squarewave generator which is the fuzz section off of the schumann ppl and is very synthy.k.o. amps made one and now industialectric took it over. parasite studio has the 311 fuzz which similar to your comparator design.
