Just wondering if theres any interest in this?
Perfectly lighted digital HD Pictures are great, but with all this great technology of digital cameras and youtube.......can't we hear these puppies? I mean that's what building pedals is all about...how it sounds......right?
And don't get me wrong....I love the pictures thread....I drool over it every day...
This way if you can hear an approximate idea of what the effect will sound like before you build it.
And a thread will be a good way to keep them all together.........maybe?
Heres my youtube channel to start things off: http://www.youtube.com/user/goodfreshie (http://www.youtube.com/user/goodfreshie)
Whatcha think?
Anyone else got one?
I think it's definitely cool idea and yes, I've got one: EM1022 chorus/flanger demo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXxmixk46Xo) :) Cheers, T.
Maybe we should delete this one and start it off as "Demo Videos" instead of "Can we start a Demo Video Thread?" :icon_lol:
My test demo - Not me playing and audio didn't record that well on digital camera due to amp being so close and loud:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CSvmKHfDew
Hope to have some better ones up in the near future.
I think it would be more beneficial to have a demos subforum (like pictures). If the demo thread turns out anything like the pictures thread, you will never ever be able to find the demo you're looking for.
also a soundclips thread. 8)
yes. a demo video thread and a demo clips thread.
maybe with an intro 'how to:' upload videos or soundclips in the first post...
and some suggested image and video host sites. -like youtube- or soundclick or whatever...
Maybe a combinded one for both video and audio demos like a multimedia clips section?
just put link to your youtube on the signature underneath...
like mine...!
but yeah everyone should have demos on it....

Love to see all the action here.... ;D ;D ;D

Awesome, darron!
Hey Darron,
You need a real picture of one of the boosters on the video. They are so sweet looking it loses something in the mock up. I am going to buy one of those soon. BTW, anyone figure out how we can post the videos instead of linking like darron mentioned before?
Chris
thanks guys! it wasn't me playing though....
i tried using the embed code, but it didn't work. i thought i saw people embedding flash in the pictures thread ages ago but it would take forever to find the right page to ge the code. could be wrong.
Chris, you should build a booster... more satisfaction. i can send you one of my enclosures if you'd like, and custom engrave it with whatever you want? i have the one konb+switch ones in red and the 3d blue for one large one with three knobs. all pre-drilled. i didn't post a photo in the video because they change colour all the time and i wanted the video to be something more timeless. it will be replaced soon anyway...
Hi Darron,
I see the red box but the only 3 knobber I see is your tremelo. Do you have a 3 knob booster? I love the flamed maple looking boxes :-*
better take this to PM... (:
Dr boogey demo.. without talking - yay!. Read the description for info. I built this out of the extra parts I have from when I built one for myself. I always order double or triple for the components. Gonna sell it. This one has more bass on tap, which the mic hates me for. Enjoy :P

nice demo ghost! I thought your playing was fabulouse..chunky sound out of that thing...I may have to step away from the tubes and build one. unless i just build one with tubes....hmmm..nice demo though, nice build too. Makes the peavey sound good. I have the same amp lol.

Thanks :P - This one has boosted values in C11 and C12. IIRC they're 500nf and 1uF... but it's been a while so you might want to search my posts if that's what you're going for. I find that it really gives a fat massive sound this way.
Sorry for the late replies folks.
I don't make the Tungsten amp these guys do.
Looks just like an amp on my site though.

I don't play on the clips primarily because I can't

i don't think business is a viable thing, but it's an AWESOME hobby business, and i can't imagine it being anything other than that.... but who wouldn't love to do that for a living?
you make real good sounding stuff and if your known on here, your known literaly around the world ( see wheres your home town thread ). I dthink for someone like yourself who is young enough and has enough drive its not unthinkable at all. Especialy if you started building amps as well...just a thought. Either way, Nice Work!!

i used to build amps for Dave Ulbrick. point to point stuff, on of the best constructions in the world...
that's a WHOLE other world... you have to lay down thousands of bucks to make a boutique amp i think. having someone wind the transformers for you alone is hundreds on hundreds. leave that to the people who were there when the tube was phased out because they are doing it best.
i'll save it for retirement maybe (:

Is that basically amplitude modulation? Sounds more or less like a ring modulator, but with more of the original signal and carrier getting through.

That sounds great Greg! Nice work.
Hey Thanks! I should have the 10 watt version done tomorow or the next day. I cant wait to hear an el34 in this design. I got a better layout going to so hopefully less buzz and oscillation....fingers crossed....

wouldn't amplitude modulation be a tremolo? no, it's a sample and hold. there are two buffers with a fet switched by a really fast clock in the middle. when it's switched off a small capacitor holds the signal where it was which is held by the buffer. this in effect makes the wave have a ladder and sound like a low bitrate digital signal (atari)

Ok I'm familiar with S/H circuits from synths. So then the more frequently the sample and hold samples, the greater the number of amplitude levels it is representing, similar to the number of amplitude levels represented by different bit resolutions in digital audio... just that in this case, they are probably not fixed to exact corresponding fixed amplitude depths/voltages, like they would be in digital.
I can see how that would work.

that's right. in fact it seems whenever the circuit is mentioned people jump in to remind that it is not true bit crushing, as you pointed out there's infinite number of amplitude depths and the levels are not fixed. the sound is still right. it's simple and fun but not sure how practical this would be for use without further development removing the noise.
the schematic is here but i had to modify the values to get it working: http://experimentalistsanonymous.com/diy/index.php?dir=Schematics/Fuzz%20and%20Fuzzy%20Noisemakers (http://experimentalistsanonymous.com/diy/index.php?dir=Schematics/Fuzz%20and%20Fuzzy%20Noisemakers)

well in this case i've only helped him with the logo and making the plates to label them. usually i'd help with the enclosure and power coating but this speaks for itself as it is. the actual circuit and construction on these ones is what's really killer, not the cosmetics. i'll pass it on now, thanks!
edit: oh, and brett has been FLAT OUT since the last 6 months or more. he's very respected too, what he says is good people jump and and you can see the video hits skyrocket. think he spends the bulk of his day responding to emails!

zac built a modded DOD 440 clone. it is used here in a subtle way, not doing the edie brickell quack quack sound.
what i am is waht i am are you what you are or what?signal chain is guitar >env filter> Y split to normal channel, 2nd channel has the FZ1 A clone. interesting textures. note how the blend of clean and dirty together into the same amp gives strange textures on the decay.
i recommend the 440 for an unconventional env filter.
Great audio daron!!

kevin, thanks for posting those, a nice sampling of a bunch of escobedo circs etc. i listened to all of them haha. the uglyface guitar got really cool toward the end of the vid, i also liked the ocatvaia type tone of the psychtar. you have good chops and musical sense, showcases the pedals well.
a zac zagar modded whammy:
What mods were done to that Whammy? I couldn't find anything with a Google search.
Thx,
-- T. G. --
oh , it was pretty straightforward. the two switches on the sidecar are scroll up/scroll down ( prevents having to bend down to change settings ), the trubypass is on the unit - this is the most difficult part of the mod, there are a how to articles online. there is also a reset/on button that allows the user to recalibrate the treadle per the manual, which gets negated by the addition of the trubypass switch.

Hey Joe,
Thanks for the kind words :) . Like I mentioned, I need to post the "straight" builds that I have done too. I just tend to put up the noiser stuff because there is less representation of it on the web (mostly).
Thanks for posting the Whammy vid. I've been thinking about doing the switching mod on mine. Wish I could mount the switches inside of the case, but I'm wary of tinkering with it as I've already fried one doing a true bypass mod on it =/. I use a true bypass box for it now. Hmmm, maybe I can build a true bypass, switching box for it...
To keep this post relevant, here's one of the crazier commision builds I've ever done. Guy sent me 4 Devi Ever fuzz kits, and a huge box in which he wanted them all mounted in lol. And, on top of that I added some switches to flip transistors and change values to make varitions of other Devi pedals. Before anyone asks, no gut shots =).

A video of me assembling a madbean zombii. Probably not much info in there you wouldnt already know. It's intended for aspiring pedal builders more then anything else. There is a short demo of the pedal at the end.
Anyway hope you like it.

Made this demo for a friend of the zombii (fuzz factory) with lightplate i built in the other video. Thought I might as well share it here. I know its not for everyone, but i really like it! When you hit the spot, crank it up, it sounds fantastic!

I quite like the sound at the start, almost octave-like.

@brian: love that cave dweller delay.....sweet!..ive been looking to build 2 delays in one box, going by the size of the pcb thats ideal...can't wait for that one...cool man!.. :icon_cool: :icon_cool: :icon_cool:
Here is my lastest built. This is a modified Valvecaster.
Here's my modulated delay. The delay is based off the 'Cave Dweller' type curcuit, but with modulation of the time control.
Plexi drive with Microamp boost section. Plexiboost!
I want to add one!
Muff Fuzz with switchable Mark Hammer boost mod.
Video also features my LBP-1..
Just playing some riffs. New camcorder microphone is decent though.
PLEASE don't laugh too hard at my builds. I take pride in putting them into silly things around the house... too cheap to buy enclosures, and I don't gig or anything.
Here's a video of me making a reverse etch and wiring a pedal.
It's very straight forward, not really 'explained', but images are better than words sometimes.
Hope you like it:

Thanks, Rob.
Yeah, I recommend doing that very carefully before sanding the paint rests, so you don't have to sand so much and damage the paint.
Cheers!

With all the time and care you put into your pedals I hope you sell them for $1000 each Fernando.

The LFO is a little something extra I added. It's driving a LDR in series with the frequency pot.

More pics and details here (http://dogisblue.com/gear/diy-effects-crazy-delay-pedal-in-a-fossil-watch-tin-with-gas-can-amp/).
Ok, my first 14 minutes of demo lameness... I'm a bit off kilter today, can't play to save my life, and drank waaaay too much coffee (and working on some more, lol).
Demo of some of my pedals using guit-fiddle and then Bass. First one is the Scrynth circuit... I kind of mumble it a couple times, but now you know. I totally forgot to demo that on the bass, so I guess I do another later. I couldn't find a strap without locks on it, so I was kind of fumbling the guitar.
I mention at the end I'm missing some pedals, not enough jumpers. Pedals in this vid: (scrynth circuit, straight from the BB, yo!),
ChipDrive OverDrive, Bazz Fuss, Big Muff, F.U.Fred,
Toe Jam Wah, Nurse Quacky, and KMD Phaser. I'm missing:
DS-1, FX-91 Bass OD, Little Angel, and FX-17 Wah. (italicized is actually my normal bass pedal chain)
Next time I'm mic'ing the crap, lol. The fade in and out really sucks, although the sound really isn't too bad at all for the built-in mic. Fish eye lens (so you don't see all the 'tronic garbage). ;D

The sad part is that this camera has some of the
better audio available in a handheld ... but my dad has one with really good sound and less compression. I might borrow that in the future for any tremolo or compression pedals.

I posted several new demos to my youtube channel of designs from around the DIY community. All of them are projects I built on perfboard in the last month or so, except for the Whisker Biscuit, which is on one of EffDub/Culturejam's fabbed boards.
Engineer's Thumb -- MerlinB's excellent design.
Mini Red Llama (Baby Bactrian) -- it's the Madbean schematic but done on perfboard after I was practicing with the DIY Layouts program. (Here ya go ... http://jonpattonmusic.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/red-llama-1590a.pdf)
Mini Fallstaff - my little rangemaster derivative with some changes I made recently to make it play nicer with brighter gear. (Here's the layout: http://jonpattonmusic.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/fallstaff-od-layout2.png
Mini Orange Squeezer -- Again, Brian's schematic (which is pretty standard), but I deviated as I usually do when building these. This is my favorite OS so far.
Whisker Biscuit -- Effdub's board. HOLY CRAP LOUD. The next one I make will probably have a much smaller volume pot.

Here's my latest demo. I hope it's not verboten to post a demo of this particular circuit ... but these are four different takes on a similar idea.
I realize it's crazy to build four variations on a pedal that I don't/won't even use on my board, but it was fun and I learned a lot about op amps and tone filtering.
Your videos are great John. Beautiful tone.

Hey guys,
Here's a quick vid I did to demonstrate my modified EHX Freeze pedal (effects loop, expression pedal, new switch):
man, thats great. I must do that :icon_eek:
Very cool Paul! I likes it.
Thanks guys! There's not much by way of 'know-how' or 'premeditation' happening in those modes---I probed the circuit and found where the effects loop sounded best and inserted there (almost lost an SMD resistor in the process! Holy crap they are small).
Well I don't know if ill leave this video up. I was tired and waiting for something to render on another pc. So at 4am I turned on the webcam and the mixer and plugged in the neutron. Now let me say I normally don't look this ugly and tired and make funny faces when I play. I attribute it to being way to tired. And sorry for the endless noodling and no talking. was just freestylin some stuff with the new guitar.
I had a dyna comp with the jangle mods in front then a SRV special tube screamer second in the chain followed by the neutron into a 1973 tweed tube amp. Mic'd with a cheap behringer dynamic at a 45 degree angle into a cheap behringer mixer over usb to the pc and a logitech cam.
@jim: that sounds great man, really responsive. cool playing too :icon_cool:
you should've worn a fuzzy wig and flares though... ;D
Wow That sounds great. I really need to take on an envelope project. Very responsive like rob says.
Those eyes don't say 4AM. yew aint foolin noone ya dagum drug stoner :icon_mrgreen:
Haha thanks guys , I used this led that has a fresnel lens and has low forward voltage and it let me fine tune it in nice with 2 ldr's . Made it nice and responsive with a low value RX. I find its really useable in all modes like this as well. some times the higher notes on the B and the E string dont trigger well but that's mainly because I was switching between fingers and using a pick. It seems even if you pluck loud it doesnt give the full range response a pick does on the high strings. And muting with both hands helps on some of the fast stuff for getting the filter to reset between notes.
I was really tired... :icon_eek:
Madbean's Smoothie (1590A Phase 45) with a blend pot. Just realized I never made this demo public last month. Enjoy!
Pew Pew! heh That phase has some nice lush sounds I like the mix too , I haven't used a phaser for a long time but I like the lush sound you got out of it. I used to own a Russian small stone and although it was nice It never fit in with my sound. Maybe a phase 45 or 90 will suit me better.
Always like your videos lots of good info. What do you like more the phase 45 or the 90 ? And what amp is that ?
I finished this today. I'm going to start making demo videos for the heck of it. I got a little distracted near the end by a tall older lady on a unicycle rolling down the street :icon_eek:
It cut off because apparently my camera only records 10 minutes at a time :icon_mad:
Nice pedal sounds real nice . Cheese dang drug smoker, woman on a unicycle haha and you called me high! hahaha
Nice video though pedal sounded good through your amp. the pics of it in the pic thread where sweet! nice work man!
Do you use the camera mic or do you have a room mic or something I didn't see? I been using a cheap behringer vocal mic at a 45 degree angle on my amp into a mixing board that is usb to a pc for recording. Gonna switch it up to a Heil pr30 mic!

I like this
Madbean's Naughty Nautilus -- Enjoy! I demoed as many of the easiest sounds to access as possible, though there are some really bizarre noises you can get out of this with different setups.
Doing this demo made me realize that the gain pot really needed to be changed. Nothing below 11:00 is usable for anything I can think of. Then I realized it's because it's an audio taper, bunching about 800K into the second half of the sweep. The lowest usable resistance in most settings was ~700K. A linear would be better; a reverse audio is ideal. I decided to simply reverse the pot's action since I didn't have a 1MC lying around. Now about 2/3 of the pot's travel is useful. I think even better would be to use a RA taper and a 4.7M across it. This would make it an 825K pot with about 90% of the sweep being in the usable range.
^Sounds great Jon-very "spanky"! :)
You always do a great job of demoing your pedals-Thanks!

I appreciate the sentiment and I know you're just being helpful, but the ONLY thing I have that makes a digital recording of any kind is my handheld camera. So it's not like I can spend an afternoon "working" on the audio in the recording, and there's no opportunity for mic placement or other niceties. It's part of the video. It would probably cost close to a thousand dollars for home recording and video equipment to make a marginally better video that's just going to get compressed into oblivion by YouTube regardless. Of a couple different cameras I had access to (including some nice digital camcorders), this one had the best overall sound.
This is why I talk so much in the demos ... they're to give a rough idea of the sound of the pedal, and I try to describe what I think won't come through. I'm not trying to sell anything, and I hope people realize that I try to be honest about what I demo.
@deadastronaught: I've built 20+ (15 in boxes) and have 13 of them. (Two were for a friend.) I've actually build ALMOST as many tremolos (and 12 are in boxes). And yes, I fully admit I have a problem. :P

You obviously have computer of some kind, it is device capable to do digital audio recording. The biggest problem of your recording is ALC (Automatic Level Control; acting as heavy compressor, sort-of) applied by camera to the audio, resulting by continual level and color changes. Even if you would let cheap voip headset laid down on the floor, put it into PC's mic input and record audio by this, recording would be probably more accurate. This is extreme example of course aiming for zero cost. If you would like to go more "pro" and e.g. record your voice by one mic and combo by second, devices like simple mic pre-amps and audio mixers are cheap, quick, simple and nice DIY projects on the same level like e.g. MXR MicroAmp stompbox. 10-20$ dynamic microphones could do the job. There is lot of free audio recording software and you probably have some video software capable to mix external audio to your video for free bundled with your camera (and there are probably free solutions as well) and IMO it would take one afternoon to master it.
Not going to push you anymore, if you would like to get more into it, start the thread, I believe lot of people would have valuable hints and it could be interesting.
YouTube audio can be very clean, I would not see problem there.

I liked Dogtown as well as DT and Z boys, of course Z boys is the real deal.
Skateboard Kings has a bunch of Dogtown footage as well, just a few years after
the z boys film documentary. Skating pools and some Venice beach footage etc etc.
Yea, the documentary had a really good soundtrack 'Old man' and 'I Wanna be Your Dog' are stuck in my head.
Speaking of old skate footage....Have you seen him?

Well, have you? :icon_mrgreen:
It's winter time, which means the hotel down the street is draining their pool. I better go stretch, don't wanna pull a hammy. I usually only skate when there's a good pool. :icon_biggrin:
^ Who? Animal Chin? :icon_wink:
Gosh I'm derailing the hell out of this thread, but I rarely get to talk skate anymore.
Such as the fact that Steve Alba's sister is none other than Jessica Alba. And that Jason Muir's(Z-Boy) brother is Mike Muir, the frontman for Suicidal Tendencies

Version 2 of my Clipper Ship.
It includes a very revealing noise floor comparison with version 1 about 2/3 of the way through. My reaction when I actually compared them side by side was pretty much :o
p.s. My kitty decided to play with a paper bag at various points in the video. Hopefully the rustling won't be too distracting ... it's just a dirt pedal, anyway.

Nice pedal. I like the simplicity of the two old school effects on tube amps.
Joshua Tree Echo (Multiplex with a bunch of mods, Rub-a-Dub, and Fat Pants). Runthrough of the controls is looooong, so fast forward to 3:00 if you don't care how anything works.

My "Hamlet" delay and preamp.
I'll post a build doc (with PCB, etch, and perf layouts) as soon as the boards arrive and I can verify them. The CIRCUIT is obviously verified, but I'm just trying to get all my ducks in order on this one before posting the build thread.

I posted this elsewhere, so here it is verbatim from there....
Here is a quick, crap quality demo of Jon's Clipper Ship Boost/Overdrive circuit in action.
Jon has a better quality demo of it, played thru a clean amp.
I always play with my Dr Z Maz 18 set to drive the power tubes into saturation. And the preamp volume is at about noon.
That's how I roll.;D
I go back and forth between lollar imperial pickups, stock humbucker and split coil, on a custom made PRS.
The quality is just a digital camera mic, so, yea....don't expect Dolby. :P
And don't expect phenomenal playing, I spend more time soldering than playing nowadays.
I'm sure you all know how THAT IS....:P

Which echo did you mod?
It was a Hannah Montana toy guitar with echo I circuit bent into a pedal. It had a 2399 chip in there, and the circuit was similar to the pt2399 datasheet echo. One of the mods I did was swap out the delay time resistor to a much higher value pot for the long grainy echos.
Nice job! Miley would be proud! ;)

Beautiful! I think you were a church organist in a past life! ;) I'm ready for some Toccata and Fugue in D Minor!
I hope you don't mind a few questions:
1) Was it responding to your vibrato or were you vibrato-ing out of habit?
2) Will it respond to string bends and the whammy bar?
3) Is it attack sensitive. For example, if you play some Ian Anderson flute, will it produce a hard "puff" attack when you attack the string hard, and a legato slur if you do a soft hammer on/pull off trill?
4) This is probably more of a DAW question. Could you assign one instrument to all notes you play below a certain pitch and another instrument to notes above that pitch? For example, string bass for notes you play on the low E and A strings and piano chords for notes on the four higher strings?
Sorry for the questions, but this is fascinating stuff!!!

3 would depend on the sound you were triggering - you would set adsr there. there seems to be some crude velocity sensing.
4 set up your sounds in a sampler and keymap them. you can then have different instruments in different octaves - eg c2 to c3 for bass, c#3 to c4 for whatever, etc. depending on velocity sensitivity you could also have two sound per note - play softly for oboe or hard for trumpet or whatever. and set up individual samples on odd notes here and there that you are unlikely to play unless very deliberately so that can trigger one shot samples, sound fx, loops, lighting fx...
as to playing style (i'm sloppy too) try the old acoustic guitar to a banjo with a sock trick. stuff some light foam or cloth under your strings to deaden them as some bassists do. this should allow enough of a note thru for the pic to sample but quickly kill off any ringing that may cause beat frequencies that would confuse the pic program.

Does it have to be a video? How 'bout a picture and a Soundcloud clip? I've found to get good demo sounds with my Tascam field recorder.
^ video only ... :icon_twisted: ;D
lol, not really, yep put it up man... 8)
I thought of making some demos with my Tascam and camera. With a click take to match things up. The Tascam is alright, lacks bass though.
Last five pedals I finished. Pictures are in the picture thread. Don't want to clog up this thread. This is about sound, yes? Is it possible to embed a Soundcloud file here?
Some nice fuzzes. Through Peavey Classic 30 lowest usable volume.

Yes, that thing does feedback well, even at lower volumes. Reminds me of the sound of jimi at the L.A. Forum concert....

wrong post!! sorry!!
This is the new version of the Bearhug. Better range on the compression knob, quite a bit more output.
I NEVER use compressors.
Doesn't mean I won't build one, though. ;)
Nice work, Jon.
I posted this over at the madbean forums...
Here's a demo of stomptown's Galacticon PCB, with vibe mod caps wired in permanently. As usual, my playing suffers from 13 hour work days, but.... Whatever.
Great PCB layout, and sounds great.
Of course, I somehow messed up the decal while wiring it up..... Damnit.
Nice builds and playing, Jon and ch1naski! I detect some similarities in your playing styles! Jon's a little country, ch1naski's a little bit rock and roll ♫♩ ♫ ♬ ;D
Don't know if it's good or bad, but I know I love it so.......
Dude, we're old.
I just wish I could add Jon's chops/style to my vocabulary. Beautiful clean tone and fingers.
very cool john and chianski... 8)
man i really love that vibe, sounds great with dirt going in there too...very 'bridge of sighs '' etc.. :icon_cool:
that's on my 'to do list' for sure... 8)
Demo video by the customer using a looped recording. OCD-based for the dirt, added blend and channel options, including diode options (LED, MOSFET, 1N914, 1N60p, 1N4001) on DIP switches for each channel. Bypass and channel switching by relay. High, Blend and Low are global.
A new one hot off the press.
Please, watch in HD format. Tks.
^ crazy... :icon_cool:
@john: 4:38 lol ;D.....another great vid+cool sounds.. :icon_cool:
I'm not a pro, but I made this.

Runoff Groove's Supreaux Deux. I tried to include some Most Excellent Riffage early on, but be warned there is blues wankery toward the end.
Enjoy!
I've started making demo video's because of the anniversary contest and having great fun with it. On the first 2 demo vids I did my playing was rubbish, too much held back and hasty playing and not properly showing what the pedal can do. The tremolo demo is the first demo I'm satisfied with. When I get back from the shops I will have a listen to all the other demo's posted here.
Contrary to midwayfair this octave fuzz demo starts off with major fret-wanking right away.
Busy demo weekend. Here's the Runoff Groove Azabache (finally!):
And the Last Bear Bender:
As always, lots of annotations in the video, so it's probably best to watch on YouTube.
This was a lot of dirt circuits to do, so I tried to use different riffs/songs/feels for each pedal to keep things interesting.
Enjoy!
Jon, I'm having corner cabinet withdrawal. BTW, have you ever tried that sag circuit? Looks intriguing.

Jon, I'm having corner cabinet withdrawal. BTW, have you ever tried that sag circuit? Looks intriguing.
I breadboarded it, in a kind of lazy way (just two FET stages). It DOES work. I'm not sure it works better than a dedicated compressor. Part of the issue is that you need a lot of gain to get it to sag, but in order to get that kind of gain, you're already overdriving a couple stages. So you can't do the "clean" amp compression that a tweed has (not saying 5E3s are clean, just that they compress even before they distort). If you use a dedicated compressor, you can get any shade of clean or dirty compression you like, even use the compressor to slam the FETs. It's kinda the danger of cool things.
I used a home-made echo/delay for the background guitar, played through a transistor amp. The lead guitar is through a home-made fuzzface into a '77 Bassman ten.
I lost the video clips from the beginning of the song so some random images were inserted until about the 1 minute mark.
thanks

Hey folks! Just lurking lately, haven't been building. But What plug in do I need to see the embedded utoob vids on this crakberry they gave me?
Thanks!!
^An iPhone or Android. ;)
Sorry-couldn't resist. ;D
Edit: this might help: http://helpblog.blackberry.com/2011/03/watch-youtube-on-blackberry/
Must be a plug-in for the browser itself because I can view utoob stuff via its regular we page, and I even have an app that takes me straight there. Just can't see the embedded videos on this web page with me b-berry.
Cheers:)
Ah. I don't know if you have the same problem I have, but the embedded video thumbnails don't appear on my iPhone, but if I click on the blank space where the video should be, it plays.
This is what I see on my iPhone.
That's exactly what I get but I can't tap anywhere to get it to play. Just blank. Oh well. I'll keep scanning the help pages.
Hmm. Maybe your already doing this, but the long way is to hit "Quote", copy the URL, and then paste it in your browser. I'm not sure if the BB would let you do that.
So, this is our fist official demo for the latest amp, don't hesitate to post your opinions.
Regards
After 20 minutes trying to embed, to insert, to put, to ##*%&## a youtube video here, I place the link to my last building.

guitarmageddon, I've been asked by a friend to build a theremin for him and his band. I have looked around and found kits in the 300$ range as well as cmos theremins for next to nothing. I know little about them and am not sure which to try and build. What kind is that one and is it your own and/or would you be willing to give out the schematic?

and a demo for my Fuzzy Face pedal
I took my "Fun Face" no-knob fuzz off the bread board and put it in a tin box. It's a very cheap, easy and fun FF to make. Here's a sample, Ransom Strat w/Dimarzio Area PUs-> "Fuzztoid"-> Li'l Dawg Prince. Starting with bypassed sound, then low volume on the strat, then all over the place with volume and tone knobs.
Finally done! After much experimentation and deliberation I decided on two RCA transistors from an old mid 1960's short wave radio, a 2n270 & a 2n586.
Played with, as usual:
Danny R. strat w/DiMarzio Area's-->
GE Fuzz Pedal-->
Li'l Dawg Prince (Tweed Princeton)
I recently recorded a single-riff video of a Real McTube using 6n2p tube!
Had no electric laying around so i played my acoustic guitar ;)
Enjoy!
A quick video comparing a compressor based overdrive to a commercial clone of bb preamp. Sound is smartphone quality and volume levels vary but i hope something gets through. Loud noises on engaging the pedal are caused by low quality wires that don't ground well not the pedal itself.

Here's the VTF MKII Germanium Supafuzz/Tone Bender with variable input cap ala deluxe bazz fuss and treble bleed on the fuzz pot to retain some clarity at low gain settings.
The Super Cod OD/distortion. It's sort of a VLOD and OCD but a lot of values changed and using one Ge and one Si diode for clipping.
A new full-tube/high voltage overdrive pedal that i'm working on.
- Features Gain / Bass / Treble and Volume controls (James style tone-stack) along with a switch for choosing between scoop and hump mids.
- The 2nd foot-switch will be wired so you can change the mid freq. response.
- The pedal is very dynamic and responds excellent to the picking strength, also very responsive to guitar volume change.
- The tone is a little bit top-end oriented with a little bit of fuzziness on the top (more like a fender amp that is driven hard).
- Anode voltage 260V / 3 gain stages and one cathode follower directly into the tone-stack.
Finished editing this last night and thought I'd share. Demo of the Valve Wizard Equinox II

I did this quick recording:
I really like it in front of an overdrive amp, it is between a Fuzz Face and a Big Muff.... Except it can work with Orange amps!

Hi everybody!
Old thread, but I thought I like to show my latest projects here since it is a video demo thread. I am new to the forum and i hope it is cool to post this stuff here...
I'm still working on this stuff, it is work in progress, so questions, comments and suggestions are welcome :)
Here it is:
1) This is a basic PT2399 delay. The Time is controlled by a 10 Step sequencer (CD4017 circuit). It can go from weird pitch shifting to subtle chorusish sounds.
2) Here's a ducking effect. It is done like that: The "Bassdrum" (coming from the boss loopstation) goes into the envelope follower (based on the mu-tron follower section) the envelope signal controls the VCA which squashes the guitar signal. The VCA is done with the Coolaudio V2164 chip using only one channel.
In the video you see these boxes from left to right: loopstation as the bassdrum source - envelope follower - one LFO - a second LFO - VCA (on breadboard) - to the far right you see a simple true bypass switch to bypass the VCA.
3)
Again the VCA, but now it is controlled by the first LFO, so it's a tremolo. The second LFO can change the speed of the first one, so it is alternating between two pre-set speeds. Then also the envelope follower can control the first LFO. Every time the bassedrum is hitting, the tremolo starts from a fast to a slow rate.
I am working on some kind of modular guitar effect setup. The idea is to use some VCA's, LFO's, Delays and envelope followers that that can interact with each other. You can combine them in different ways to to create different effects.
So what do you think? I'm open to questions and suggestions...
Cheers!
David
