Phuncgnosis (sorry, another one)

Well I am back on the work bench again. The soldering iron was cold for much of the year as my bands had albums out and touring for the first time in a while. Have been getting some stuff accomplished in DIY again over the holidays, but already am hitting my head against the wall of Tim Escobedo's Phuncgnosis circuit.

A forum search revealed that the verified layouts are vero and many people have had issues with the circuit. Various successes and mods lead me to believe this is one for those with a good sense for these "choose your own adventure" circuits.

I did it using this MarkM layout from the gallery:

http://www.aronnelson.com/gallery/main.php/v/MarkMs-Gallery/album15/album76/Phuncgnosis_LAYOUT.gif.html

For the purposes of testing I wired it up without a footswitch. I used a .0022 for C5 and a 4.7M for R8 because that's what I had; the rest is all per the parts list.

No filtering, passes signal.

1) Has anyone built and verified this MarkM layout?
2) Should I try different LED's as recommended in other threads?

I checked my work and noticed I had C6 in backwards, but corrected this and result is the same.

thanks for any help...

i have been working on getting the phunc' to be better behaved for a while on breadboard , i would recommend building from my schematic in this thread...

it has a proper 'down' sweep now, rather than those 3 leds, which do not work imo..

swap the 2 1nf's, for 680pf if you want the filter high....i prefered the 1nf's.

btw those substituted parts will be fine.....are your diodes in the correct way round?

+1 on rob's suggestion.

i modified mine as per his tinkering, and it works great now.

if you're not getting a proper sweep, turn the knob down for the sensitivity, it may be backwards.. it's a weird little circuit!

Thanks I'll check out the mods!

I'm not getting any filtery type action at all. The diodes are correctly oriented, so is the IC and all the electro's.

Thanks again!
