not being familiar with ic's yet and there representation.
Can someone please tell me which of the pins goes directly to earth  and nowhere else

Thank you kindly sir and just so i know is pin 4 always represented as at the bottom of the triangle and pin 8 above it (in this case going to 9v+) for future referance.

In most cases, yes.

However, there is little about any schematic that can be said to be "always".

It's a lot like learning to speak another language - the words have a simple meaning that can mostly be translated word-for-word, but idiomatic use, the common figures of speech we all use, may not be translatable word for word, and people sometimes say things that are subtly different from what the words translate to.

So with schematics. They are a means of expression, and may have variable meaning. There's nothing for it but to learn the language, idioms and common usage and all.

By the way love the article on analaysis of the sreamer.
Well i built the son of screamer last night. I was up till 4.30.
tested it this morning when i got up. Nil audio.
here we go debugging for hours and then i touch an eath wire going to a pot. presto it springs to life.
Aint that always the way.
Anyway i digress i appreciate the help.
