I would like to make the startoblaster add more distortion any thoughts?

any thoughts?

i like blue. purple is cool too. why is the moon? wow! i'm alive! oh, look! a cloud!

So I think you are saying a higher gain transistor, maybe?

You could try a J201, but it is supposed to be a clean boost.
How about hanging clipping diodes off the end of it?

1) Add diodes to ground after the output cap. Try LEDs or multiple diodes in series or you might lose too much volume.
2) Make R2 bigger.
3) Make R3 smaller.

haha! touche!

decrease r1, r2, r3. lose vr increase c1. breadboard before build.

If you add clipping diodes, make sure you have a resistor in series with them, jFETs can't handle straight diodes to ground. Alternatively, build a circuit that's designed to distort!
If at first you don't succeed... use bigger transistors!
