I've made madbeans uproar, but i've decided to place bandaxall tone stack with midshift instead of tone pot. I've ended up with a more useful pedal but even when I max the vol pot it's still not as loud as when bypassed.

The stock tone control is high-cut-only, so it is practically unity-gain for most sounds.

A James (surely not Bandaxall) has gain of 1/10.

So yeah, you lose a lot.

Quick-look fix is to wire IC2A for gain of 10.

You may want to have a look at this..? This is the correct schematic.

Doesn't matter what you did to get it... If it sounds good, then it is good!

This...

And if you search tagboard there it's a new Vero layout off the correct scheme.

How?

@Jim thanks for the improved schematic, but I would like to solve the issue that I have here. After that I'll use that schem and compare it to this one.

JebemMajke

I've bypassed tone stack and now it works, sort of xD

I've been playing with it for 10 minutes and it kinda started to lose volume, and go into compressed fuzz territory, and more fuzz, and all of a sudden i have swells and octave up :D. After a while it "decides" that it doesn't want to reproduce higher notes, aka after 12th fret on the highest E. :D And than it just stops working.

I guess I've @#$%ed up something. So now I'll use that schem of Jim's and I will make my own pcb in eagle. I have more luck with my own pcb's than with other peoples work.

But that is not going to change my desire to use James tonestack with midshift. I really liked it. It was cool to add more bass to the circuit and to find different tones. So any help on how to restore some volume would be great.

IC2A
Break PCB jumper between pin 1 and pin 2.
Tack 10K across pin 1 and pin 2
Tack 1K from pin 2 to pin 7

> fuzz territory, and more fuzz,

Voltage readings, happy and sick. Any signal-pin not at +4.5V is A Clue. If you use TL072 opamps, look for the missing/busted input resistor.

I m using 4580 dd. I've already drawn schematic in eagle, using that one Jim posted above, plus james tonestack + your mods. Thanks PRR

@Jim
Isn't there a junction here?

Oh. Ok, that's hard to find and it's expensive :D. So I guess I'll use madbeans on off on wiring. Thanx

JebemMajke

It's been a while now, but I've managed to finish this thing and it's awesome. Much better than before. First I;ve tried 1458's as ic1 and ic2 and i liked the tone much better than with two 4580dd. I guess I'll have to experiment with ic's to find the best ratio between good tone and nice amount of distortion.

Thank you both for your help and guidance.

Guys am i missing something?
Whats the value of R12 pls?

Hmmm... looks like 0K.  If you check out the madbean Uproar schematic, there's no resistor at that position.  So 0K may indeed be correct.

Edit: that's zero-K, not "OK".  :)

Ohm's Law - much like Coles Law, but with less cabbage...

JebemMajke

I've wanted to use trim pot as r12, just to see if there are some benefits. But I've ended up using a jumper as R12.

This is now on next weeks build list. Thanks guys.

Just to be clear james tonestack makes it a complete different beast than uproar, and the original riot. I've compared it with friends uproar and the sound is way better with the whole tonestack. It has less volume. Kind of in the same ballpark as shredmaster, volume wise. Ofc when i boost the mids ( I've added mid boost to the tonestack ) it resembles original suhr riot, a lot. And there's more volume.

Diode wise
I would like to try 2 schottky with 2 germs on one position, or 4 schottkys. I like the sound of 2 red leds, so I would keep them. And use 1 blue led + 2 germs.

4580dds sound big and scooped. Very metal, very mesa. 1458s sounded a lot like marshall or even ENGL. So different opamps sound different in this circuit. Use sockets.
