I'm thinking of building the Dr Boogey.
After reading some of the build reports some builders reported a squeel and some possible solutions too.
Whats the best way to go about it, whos layout should i use?
I'll be building it on perfboard and want to put it in a 1590BB box.
Thanks for any help you can give

I recommend etching this board and using shielded cable on the inputs.

Etch me. I'm not there yet mate however i like the layout and i might build it on perf and emulate it.
My last build the Emo Screamer has the pot lugs through the perfboard. provided i can squeeze it in a 1590BB ill give it a go.
Thanks Jeremy

I did my own layout of the Dr. Boogey a year or so back. I built one using this layout, but never got around to updating the thread. Using this layout and shielded wire for the input and output I didn't have any problems with noise or oscillation.

Yep that's it. Sorry, I meant to post a link but a I forgot.

Yeah I built mine from that layout. It's not compact, but I at least didn't have any problems with noise after setting the trim pots. If you have a go with it let me know how it turns out!

Kipper4

I'm going to make a decision on the layout today. I'll report back later guys, no doubt with a debugg thread here too. :)

I chickened out and bought the Chunk Chunk board from madbean.  Nice board.  +1 on using shielded wires.  One of the best distortion boxes I built - an opinion shared with another tame guitarist, so I sold it.   :D   Must build another one day...

Too bad you're not in Canada, I have a FC on board pots PCB and a Chunk Chunk I would part with.

Kearns892 - Very nice layout! I have never seen that one before...?

Got any others?  :icon_twisted:

I did a layout of it a while back and it doesn't necessarily need shielded cables.  It's really picky on the component layout; I did my best to keep the gain stages separate as much as possible and feed one directly into the next.

Please share your layout Pickdropper.

I guess that would explain the bar code.  I was always told it was a birth mark, but as I got older, I became more skeptical.

I knew it. Those 1590A builds were a dead giveaway.
