Goddam this thing I think I'm gonna have to do a debug thread.
The outputs not even as loud as the bypass signal, and its hissing like a rattle snake.
I've reflowed and changed trannys and chips but to no avail

pin 3 of IC1 looks v low. what is your Vref voltage? pin 3 should be very close to same.
don't make me draw another line.

Vbias should be half V+ on the circuit I looked at, w/ 1M//1M and 100nF cap, 470k to pin 3.
don't make me draw another line.

Kipper4

Might be something spooky going on in this vero
look at the second vero layout the 2n7000 version (Which mine is based on) after the 100R resistor power goes through the 100nf cap to the V bias point where the 2x 1meg resistors join
one to left of cd4069 and one to the right of it.
Surely the power going through the 100R should go straight to the junction not through a 100nf cap.
And I would expect Vb according to the schematic to be the normal 4.5v
not 1.3v
should i try a jumper from the 100R resistor to Vb (row above the CD4069UBE) in the vero layout?

heres the link again

remember its the 2n7000 version Second layout down
thanks

the only thing worse than doing a vero layout is trying to read a vero layout.

from what I can and can't see, there is no connection between the 9V after the diode and 100R to either 1M divider resistor. that will be your trouble, stick yr meter on Vref and measure the resistance to the 100R and to gnd.

but I might be missing something ..... I was

the 100R follows up under IC2 and down under IC4, and of those connections are "doubles". measure the resistance (power off) from pin 3 IC2 to V+ and then to gnd. it should show close to 1M47 each way.
don't make me draw another line.

Kipper4

i reckon the 1M resistor to the right of IC1 should go from 100n Lower leg to top of 100R.
I'll measure the resistance too brb

it makes sense that that 1M resistor (right of IC1) should go to the output of the 100R.
That way it joins the other 1M resistor situated to left of IC1 and forms Vb
the 1M to left of IC1 joins ground at pin 7 of IC1
I hope this makes sense.

When I turned the guitars volume pot it sounds scratchy. So I checked for DC currant on the output. Nothing there
Hours later I check for DC on the input nearly 4v.
I didnt expect that.
Surely this is not normal?

sorted it
I failed to make a cut under the 4k7 on input.
Sounds great on my test rig I cant wait to strike up the tube amp in the morning and blast the wife out of bed. Jack Ass style :)

I enjoy its grind more than my Mesa's Crunch and lead channel. makes them sound sterile in comparison.

Enjoy

I only really like the tone knob at around 10-25% though
"I want to build a delay, but I don't have the time."

Kipper4

I found it a bit piercing in the higher tone settings but I havent tested it extensively yet. Thanks for the advice though Pappa

I now have a verified PDF with perfboard layout too.
Thanks to Roseblood 11 for the schematic and IvIark for the vero layout.

And a big thanks to everyone who helped me out along the way

The mosfets clippers are sweet I'm using 2N7000

Hey rich can you dig me up an etch able pcb ver of this build? It sounds up my tree as I love playing tech metal in Drop a sharp. But don't think twice about my blues/funk chops! I got the bg (buddy guy) to my roots!
