Hi all.
This is my first post and build.

I am looking at building an A/B/Y pedal using the GGG layout:
http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/pdf/ggg_sw_aby3lg_lo.pdf

I have 3dpt switches, LEDs and Jacks.
What I am not sure on is what gauge of wire that should be used?

Can anyone point me to the correct wire and where to get it?
- I'm in the UK, so would it be Maplin or somewhere else you guys would recommend?

Thanks all
Ally.

I've always used 22G multi strand. Works fine. Insofar as the supplier is concerned, some of the UK boys will chirp in, I'm sure.

Maplin wire (in my experience) is a bit crap, the 7 / 0.2mm is the only stranded stuff I've found that suits working on stripboard and the like.

That and their single core bell wire.

You can get by with it. It's in the right ball park, it's probably just slightly on the fine side and the pvc sheath is somewhat inconsistent between bales.

Welcome to the Hotel California, Ally (we'll explain later...).  I wouldn't choose Maplin for anything much, except baiting the teenage nerds that work there.   :icon_twisted:   (OK, there's one or two things...)  You might want to look at places like Rapid and Bitsbox.  Personally, unless you've got a big order, choose Bitsbox.  Their 7/0.2 wire is sufficient for pretty much anything you'll build in a pedal.  And they carry most of the other things you'll need for all the many other pedals you'll be building in the future.  (Remember: you're not getting out!)

Just want to chime in here. Before I started ordering bulk wire i used to get this from Paul all the time.

I still order it from time to time. It's super easy to work with and it takes solder really well. I'm kind of wasteful when it comes to wire and this stuff always lasted a long time (2 or 3 builds). I recommend everything at his store actually. Great guy and fantastic parts.

Thanks Mike.

Maybe on my next build I'll order more to make it worth while order from the U.S.
Just for some wire, I'd probably be a bit expensive for shipping to the UK :)

Bitsbox wire gets my vote too Marc.
I use it all the time. Their wire bundles are good enough value for me.
Not affiliated.
Welcome too.

Actually Pauls Shop diyguitarpedals is very reasonable on postage too.
Especially for me as I can buy his germ jellybeans cheaper than i could buy them in the UK.
Go figure.
Stock up Raptor your here for the long haul. :)
Just to let you know many of us also use Tayda electronics a Thai company that also sells much of what we use. Delivery take two weeks and its dirty ,just dont order too much at once or you'll get stung by HMRC.
If buying in qauntity you can also by from chinese auction dealers on most std componants. There are a few no no's (componants) but very few.
All this may change after brexit.....
Enjoy your stay.
Shouldn't  Duck chime in about here..... Where are you.......

You don't have to have pedal-wire imported into any country. 24 gauge stranded is probably the most common pre-cat5 wire in the world (might be the same as "7", might not). All manner of analog control  and telephone cable. Usually in a bundle of 8,12,24,100 in one jacket. Old printer cable, doorbells, alarms, industrial control.. You may not have access to these environments first-hand, but the stuff is everywhere, including any place or catalog (that isn't very tiny) that sells caps, resistors, screwdrivers, wirestrippers and/or ICs.

Just a tip...

If you get the chance to go into any electronics shops that sell bulk wire, ask if they have any deals on multi conductor wire. Two years ago I walked into Abra Electronics, and I walked out with 75 feet of 24 conductor, 22G multistand. Every conductor was a different color scheme as well. The roll had been sitting there for a while, and had no price on it. I asked the guy how much, he shrugged and said "$75 OK?". "Take Mastercard?" I replied. That was two years ago, figure I'll be good for several years to come.
