Hi guys, I want to build a PSU for my new tube project and I want to use a 12V to 170-220V smps. I need around 20mA for my project; I know max1771 will be a good choice but I couldn't find it anywhere, So please help me find a good chip.
Thanks
Sajad

Deception does not exist in real life, it is only a figment of perception.

Any thoughts? I need 20mA in around 170V

There is a long thread devoted to this subject:

There is quite a range of supplies for nixie clocks these days, which could also work for you. You can even buy PSU kits on popular auction websites, etc.  :icon_wink:

Thank you Merlin for the reply, unfortunately when it comes to over 10mA of current all of designs are based on max1771, that I couldn't find anywhere.
How about this chip: mc34063,  http://www.mikrocontroller.net/topic/157000
The guy is talking about 43mA with 12V input I guess( I wish I knew German or whatever that language is!)

Thanks again for your quick reply, yeah I've built it and in low current (lets say less than 8mA) it rocks! but when I use it with a self split PP 12au7 amp it starts to whine like a angry cat. If I'm not mistaking in calculations I need around 15mA.(I'm assuming current draw is constant in a class-A PP design.)

I would thnk you can squeeze more current out of it by increasing the frequency and inductance a bit, possibly at the expense of some efficiency, though not necessarily much.

Hey Merlin, I tought you'd be interested; after a little search and trying every possible chip (exept 1771), I found this one: http://www.elektroda.pl/rtvforum/files-rtvforum/przetwornica_1216.jpg
I'm amazed how this thing is cold in 15mA of current! also the circuit is dead silent:http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/ss312/sajy_ho/firefly/27022012515.jpg
Thanks for all your help.
