I generally use the various silonex NSL-32 series, which I get from Farnell.
You can still get VTL5* from there too if you are willing to pay for them:

http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/search/browse.jsp?N=203598+110134598&No=0&getResults=true&appliedparametrics=true&locale=en_UK&divisionLocale=en_UK&catalogId=&skipManufacturer=false&skipParametricAttributeId=&prevNValues=203598&mm=1002077

This might be worth a read regarding whether they are equivalent or not:

I'm a refugee of the great dropbox purge of '17.
Project details (schematics, layouts, etc) are slowly being added here: http://samdump.wordpress.com

Thanks Sam it was all going so well until I saw the £16 gbp shipping charge.
They're for a Madbean Naughty fish.
Do you think the NSL32s would be ok?

Why not take some time and make your own? You can get a selection of different LDRs and LEDs and figure out which ones work best for each application. And then just wrap them in heatshrink tube and you have your own Vactrols for a fraction of the price. If you want to take it a step further you could make a mold and pour some epoxy and make them exactly like the Vactrols. They'd still be cheaper than buying VTLs.

Kipper4

Thanks
I'm no stranger to roll your own vactrol.:)
Any suggestions on componants that would come close to the specs of the vtls.
Heaven knows i've researched this and theres always a sting in the tail. Usually I think the turn on time.
Its for a madbean mutron type build.
Heck I even went to the trouble of buying 2 proper pcbs for it from Madbean.
I struggled to get the on on on dpdt switchs and settled for off board because the only ones i could find in the uk are sub minis.
It would be cheaper for me to get a buddy in the usa to buy them for me and ship them over in a padded envelope than accept the exhobotant postage costs.
I'm ranting now sorry guys
"I go now." as Duck arse says.
All this help IS appreciated

I'm probably gonna be heading down to Farnell trade counter during this week so if you want I can pick one up for you and pop it in the post. Let me know.

If you can sub for NSL-32 then you can get them here with free delivery in the UK:

I'm not sure if you can use these on the Naughty Fish though.

Order is in and a really fair price considering what most folks are asking.
cheers everyone

I regret I did not see this sooner. Proven Macron work-alikes of the VTL5Cx are available, prices a little better than the VTLs.

An International First Class shipping bag to Europe for up to four ounces is $12.50. I know that shipping is sometimes a barrier to ordering from these shores, but the economics does also depend on what the item is.

drolo

For a Mutron, I think having a very fast LDR might not be so critical.
Having one with a slowish turn off even helps with the ripple (if you would want to avoid it)

Kipper4

Thanks guys I appreciate it.
I bought a couple of nsl32 while I was at it. I know Jon's a big fan and I'm gonna experiment with them in some of my builds.
