Hi guys,

what size shall be a serrated washer (inner tooth) for a standard guitar plug, and for a 16mm alpha potentiometer - both in metrical and in inches please?

Standard guitar -jack- fits a 3/8" diameter hole and 3/8" is a standard inches-sized part. 16mm Taiwan Alpha specs are here: http://www.mouser.com/catalog/catalogusd/646/853.pdf, and they show a bushing which is 7mm diameter. 7mm is 0.2756", just a little too big for 1/4", so you'll have to use a 5/16" nominal toothed washer for this one.

3/8" is 0.375" (three divided by eight is 0.375), or 0.375*25.4 = 9.525mm. 9.6mm to 9.8mm would be good if you have metric drills.  10mm is only 0.393", and would probably work.

Pick an M7 sized toothed washer or a 3/8" nominal toothed washer respectively if you can get them. Otherwise go 5/16" for the 7mm and 9.6-9.8 hole size for the 3/8".

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.
