JHS Pollinator - how does it achieve it's sound?

Hi All,

I have 2 fuzz builds planned, just waiting for a couple of last components to turn up. I am building a Fuzz Face clone, then a Big Muff Pi clone. Recently I have been impressed with the sound of the JHS Pollinator, seems to be able to deliver some lovely crunch, and fancy tackling something similar next.

I have seen pictures of the guts, and as far as I can tell it is using just 2 germanium transistors, with the usual caps and resistors, and a silicone charge pump so it can be powered by a mains transformer. Apparently they are also adding a bias knob - but is there something else I am missing?

Can anyone tell me what else is going on in there to give it's tone?

Thanks

:)
