Tap tempo 2 expression pedal?

Maybe the topic says nothing but I really need  tap tempo for my Idiotbox Mad Doctor Stutter pedal. The problem is that it has only input for expression pedal.
Am I right that exp pedals has only potentiometer?
Is there any chip that would change tap tempo to variable resistance?
