Just wanted to let everyone know there is a fantastic free learning resource available here:

It's a 628-page book called "The Science of Electric Guitars and Guitar Electronics" by Jarmo Lahdevaara and it's an incredibly detailed look at all things guitar including basic electrical theory, transistors, string vibrations, pickups, tone controls and several sections on stomp boxes. It is a little (very!) math heavy, but if you want to go back to first principles to learn how things work this is the book for you!
