hmmm ...not sure how well it would work..anything is worth a try i guess

if you use 1 led in the centre , (maybe a 5mm- 10mm) it might be an idea to 'diffuse'' the light by lightly sanding the led to disperse light more evenly..(just take the shine off it.)
