So something like the 9203 here for the photo cells , Rob? http://www.smallbearelec.com/servlet/Detail?no=711
I've got it fired up and working but with the Vactrols I 'm using (Vactec VTL5C2 ) the effect is weak with both the Trem and Filter sections.

Hi john, are you using the recommended leds on page 1?.
including the 3mm sb clear orange, 5mm green, blue too.

as they will make a difference, especially on the filter...

im still not home till thursday, but i will re,measure the ldrs i used ok.

The units I'm using are these because I had them here.
I'm using orange diffused LEDs as I can't stand super brights visually.
I'll have to get my hands on some others just to get this working
and then deal with the visuals later.

My superbright 3mm's aren't really that bright...even my red on/off 3mm i stuck a 10k on, and its fine, not retina destroying at all..

but you can always diffuse them with a little rub of wet n dry..

when i tried standard diffused leds ,  on breadboard the effect was also weak IIRC...

ok guys i'm back from up north..been a hectic 2 weeks for me and especially mrs astro..

but all sorted now.. 8)

i'll be picking up the pcbs  from post office today...and have ordered a bunch of proper jiffy bags as a couple of guys had issues with envelopes..  :)

they will be arriving on tuesday...so i'l do a blitz post out then ok.

meanwhile i'll go through the pcb requests in order to be fair and notify you ok...

due to the unforseen high number of requests i have had to order more pcbs, so if you don't get notified this week, you will when the next batch arrives ok.

cheers guys, rob

(@kevin i'll send yours out asap ok. )

I got it all working now. Sounds good.
I used Smallbear's 5mm 9203 LDRs and super bright
(water clear) Blue and Green LEDs (just like Rob said  ;D) and
everything is as it should be. Thanks Rob!

Brilliant, nice one man.... 8)

did you swap c10 for a 47uf for longer filter sweeps?..

I actually like the faster bubbly sweep it gets now.
It gets pretty slow as is so I kept it to the schematic/layout.
I may even try to get the sweep faster just to see how it is.
I kind of wish I could adjust the spacing between cycles and keep
the same depth and speed. Might have to take a look at the tremulus
lune and see what's going on there.

Hey, John, you can adjust the duty cycle by varying the biasing on the oscillator's op amp - R1 and R2. Right now they provide an even split. If you lower either one, you can offset the wave. I think the Lune just turns one of them into a pot, but you could also probably stick a couple 47Ks in series with lugs 1 and 3 of a 250K pot, connect the wiper to pin 3 of the op amp, and get a pretty big range that way, even though it's a couple extra parts.

Thanks Jon. I'll look into that.

After playing with it a bit more I would also like to keep the
Speed and Depth of the filter but lessen the amount/intensity of
the filtered signal. Same rate and sweep but less of it in relation
to the clean signal. Would that be a matter of altering R11 at the first
op amp/filter stage. Less resistance I guess.

Received my pcb in the post yesterday, thanks rob

petey twofinger

mine is runnin great , stock with tl072's . orange ( not ultra bright ) 3mm indicators , ultra blue / green leds with tayda cds cells .   i did try some of the cheap EG  vactrols i had , but ... they all work , they just didnt have low enough impedance , i think 40 k ish was as low as i had .

not sure about what c10 i may go stock tried ten 22 and 47  .  i played thru a hacked hodad amp with a trem and delay , synching all that up ,  wow , i was doing that for two hours .

i did put in a 22nf instead of a 22pf .... thats what i get for not organizing my bom better , i also mis-polaritied the indicator led wires , and cut in an on/on for the cap switch , man did i do my best to screw this one up ! oh well , 11 hours later , its runnin . lol . the only mod i would think of would be adding an additional fine control pot , but , i blew my chicken salad up trying that once ... more monkey time is in order .

thanks Rob , for your work and the pcb was very nice too .
im learning , we'll thats what i keep telling myself

I built mine up and it sounds super. I ended up making the Filter Depth 500k instead of 100k. I did not have the spec'd photocells or LED's but came up with acceptable alternates. I tried 8002 and 9203 from SMB on the cells and ended up with 8002. For LED's, I used 3mm all around:
Trem: red diff for the indicator, clear bright for the LFO
Filter: clear bright for the indicator, one called "hyper orange" for the LFO

It's very quiet, too...not a peep of noise or ticking. Excellent work there, Rob!

deadastronaut

Cool, glad you got it going Brian...excellent.

Was you tempted to change C10 to a 47uf for a nice slow filter sweep.?.,

I did it to mine, it sacrifices high speed, but I'm fine with That... 8)
