This circuit they show how to build is also a great one for those with building experience but no design experience. It's a very simple circuit with a lot of potential for modification to experiment with sound and see what things do.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

Joe's article mentions the Forum as a resource. Even though he's done a good tutorial, beginners will probably still bang on the door here with questions. If any such refer to parts from the Cave, please note that I have posted in my Library a spreadsheet list for this build with SKU numbers:

i was thinking the same thing that rg said , then i reconsidered , its really more of an addiction or illness in some cases .

not that  i have built a lot or that i am a tech , expert or pro , i just spend too much time day dreaming about this stuff .

the rubber should meat the road at some point i guess is the point i am trying to make . there is so much info out there on gear and this stuff , often times its over whelming to me . but then again , it is a lot more healthy of an internet time waster than say porn or online gambling or 4 chan or whatever . i mean at least the folks who hang around this sort of data are doing stuff with it irl , and to me thats what the internet is all about , or should be anyway .

sorry , back to the lounge .
im learning , we'll thats what i keep telling myself

I highly recommend inserting a 5k-10k pot between the diode pair and ground, wired up as a simple variable resistance, to provide different degrees of clipping.  If you make those diodes Schottky type (e.g., 1N5817, BAT41 or 46), you'll like that added control even more.

Our hobby went big time a decade ago.
I know, there's even been a documentary about it.  ;D

I think the tongue-in-cheek tone I heard in my head did not translate well in my title  :icon_redface:
