Hey guys,

only have the polarised elec caps, but GGG say use non-pol / film. Which way can I put these in, and how did you work it out?

Caps: C8 and C2

any help would be great :-)

Thanks

C2-C8 are both 1uf non-polarized metal-film,or polyester type film caps.

yep i know, but i only have polarised... wanted to know which way to put them..

I wouldn't use polarized caps, because they have - and + side. You can do the opposite by replacing a polarized cap with a metal film, but not the other way around,if that makes sense? You can use 1uf Electrolytic or Tantalum Non-Polarized caps, but they would probably have to be axial maybe because of the spacing on the board.

if i really, really  had too,  i guess i would go

C8 positive to pin 7...

and

C2 negative to pin 3

only if i was forced at gunpoint.. ;D

Without looking at the schematic, just power-up the circuit without the caps installed.  Measure voltages at the two pads where each cap would sit.  Then wire up the cap with the + lead at the pad with the highest voltage.

Ohm's Law - much like Coles Law, but with less cabbage...

Another way to go is use smaller caps then you can use film caps and not worry about polarity.
For C8 any value above about 47n will let through all audio frequencies so will work just as well, no need for a 1uF cap.
If you make R5 100k instead of 10k then you can use a 100n cap for C2 and the circuit will sound exactly the same.

we covered these exact caps a couple of months ago, but I'm too lazy to search it up. anyway, two electros, twice the value you need, wired neg-neg, produces a non-polarised cap. and it can go in either way.
don't make me draw another line.
