Wondering how I can add more bass / make it a bit more of a transparent booster? seems a bit harsh for me..

Also how I could effectively remove any distortion at a lower boost?

Otherwise, is there a good transparent booster floating around for a PCB build?

Build from GGGs layout:

Are you using a solid state amp?  I like a treble boost into a overdriven tube amp with a speaker(s) with a smooth breakup.

Look close at the BM boost you might want a larger input cap value or a different  booster.

Increase the value of C1. That'll let more than just the treble pass into the start of the pedal. Since it has a relatively low input impedance you're going to have to make it pretty large to get a flat frequency response, 100nF will still probably attenuate the lowest notes a bit.

To lower the gain you could change R4 into a potentiometer with C4 wired to the wiper ala the Fuzz Face gain control. Or wire a 10k potentiometer in series with C4, that'll also work as a gain control.

If you want something else with a reasonable amount of tweakability try the Omega circuit from Runoffgroove http://www.runoffgroove.com/omega.html . If you want something very flat and transparent try the AMZ Mosfet booster or something with just an opamp like the MXR microamp circuit.

+1 Increase C1. 100nF will be more like full range.
Remove C4 ought to clean it up? Or as Seljer said.

This was originally meant to suit an AC30 I think, so +1 what Gus said.

AMZ Mosfet Booster and SHO are two i like and think of as transparent boosts into my tube amps.

To give the May a wider range of boost you can add a pot and another larger cap and blend between the two.

The cap blend control in this Easy Face schematic.  & Breadboard to find what works best in your setup.
