chuck the 1k pot. replace with a 1k resistor, so the fuzz runs flat-chat all the time. then (search for and) put in a pre-gain pot, works like a vol pot at the input. many people like this set-up better.
don't make me draw another line.

Pretty typical.  Expecially if the trannys have lower Hfe's.  Usually, the fuzz knob stays pretty cranked.  Rolling the guitar pot back to 7 or so, will chill it way down too.

That´s spot on whats happening :) Guess thats why Joe runs it cranked.
It´s not that the J.B Fuzz sounds bad. It´s really warm and fuzzy, just that I would like to have a little bit more versatility in the pedal.

Try a dose of "Vitamin C"- a 1K Reverse Audio pot. You'll get subtleties that you didn't know existed. I used to be the only source for these, but they have become commonly available from many mail-order sources. The suggestion for a pre-gain pot (150K Reverse Audio works well) is also good. Set this for the fuzz you like with the guitar volume dimed. Then you can set the guitar volume wherever you need it for other purposes and just dime it when you go to fuzz.
