I want to be able to compare two pedals, and switch between them with one footswitch. So I guess I need a type of AB switch, but all the ones I have seen take one guitar signal and split it to two different amps?

anyone able to help me with a layout for what I want to build?

I have one that I use, I'll see if I can find my layout for you. It's a pretty simple build.

EDIT: Found it.

six jacks, and a DPDT or 3PDT if you want LED action.

Think about how you wire a bypass switch.
Now, put that in a separate box so you can switch in or bypass a loop in which you can place a pedal of your liking - search "bypass box" or something.
Next, instead of using a bit of wire for the bypass on the switch, make that be a pedal loop as well.
