If any of you use waterslide decals, what brand do you use? I'm having trouble finding some.

I use black and white lazertran laser decals. I can sometimes find them at art/paper stores, or online.

bit spendy, though. a few dollars a single sheet, but I can usually fit 4-6 pedals worth on one. I use acrylic varnish/clear as "glue" between the paint and the decal to "fill in" bubbles and just make it stick better.

(decals are b&w, the color is from paint)

I use the laser printer ones from smallbear.

So far those are the only ones I will use after testing several others.

I'm sure that Steve Daniels knows. Though I'm not sure he'll tell. Would probably be bad business practice if he wants to keep selling them. They are just as cheap, price wise, as any others I have found.

Sorry, I had to ask.
Yeah, the price is fair. To be honest, I felt like I got gouged enough on the shipping on my last order to make me want to look elsewhere, though. :icon_sad:

I'm going to use these:

to put white graphics on dark blue for my next project.

I had been using Lazertran Inkjet - good quality but expensive.  I now have a colour laser printer and no inkjet, and even though the Lazertran Inkjet paper was still fine for laser printing, I now top coat with water based poly and the Lazertran Inkjet requires an acrylic top coat to become transparent so that became a problem.  I bought some Incal (http://imizpah.com/english/html/products_1.htm) on flea-bay from South Korea for about $10 for ten sheets letter size clear including shipping.  They shipped and arrived quickly.  It looks good, but I haven't tried it yet.

Do you put the decal on while the acrylic is still wet? or do you let it dry, then apply the decal? Just curious, because I use waterslides all the time and always get these tiny little bubbles underneath that are impossible to "pop" (too small). Please, any information on what your process is would be appreciated.

Thanks!

the acrylic paint (colors) is dry, but the acrylic varnish is fresh and still wet. only seconds pass between when I apply the varnish and the decal. I don't put too much either. not globs of varnish, just wetting the top.

I massage the top of the decal to push the bubbles either off to the side, or to the nearest pot/switch hole. sometimes I pop them with a needle. the still-wet varnish helps with pushing bubbles off.

I often put it under a warm fan to accelerate everything, too. too hot and it'll create more bubbles, though.

I'm sure there are better ways, but this is the one that works for me

I have to keep some sources proprietary, but decalpaper.com is not one of them. We buy their material in 1,000-sheet lots, and the wholesale at that quantity is good enough that we can offer competitive pricing for small quantities.
