Anyone else prefer diode clipping over Jfets?

I've built the Peppermill, and Shaka HV,  and they just don't sound natural to me. Not as bad as a bjt, but still not tubey. Even the unclipping , Tillman and Stratoblaster just don't sound not great to me. An IC with silicon diodes, soft or hard clipping just sounds better to me. Oddly I do like using a jfet as a diode.

Now keep in mind that I use SS as well as tube amps. If it just sounds good into a tube amp, that's cheating.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.
