Is it me or are there NO verified perf or Vero layouts available for either of these circuits?! Everyone one I have found seems to be missing. There must be one or two...surely?

Can anyone help?

Ok, I've been looking but haven't found any that look like they haven't had serious problems of one sort or another or were unverified try's. Just wanted to put a couple together on vero board but I'm not good at translating schematics. Sorry if that bothered you.  :icon_confused:

Not bothered at all. Just saying that "verification", and "build result", are two different animals. Build result generally dependant on the builders skill level. Even a "verified" layout can be made to "not work right", if you get my drift.

Invest in a breadboard. Heck, it's almost Christmas, so treat yourself.  :icon_biggrin:

+1.. lots of fun to be had breadboarding...its a tiny circuit, and you'll learn from it too.. 8)

now, (the other) DA, is that a bc548 or a 2n5088? and is that layout verofied?
don't make me draw another line.

deadastronaut

its from the beavis schemo..so should be ok.

3904/5088 will do ya... ;)

As a philosophical note, it's easy to type"verified" on anything on the net, and it frequently is. It's also easy to say that the Belchfire Megablaster circuit is incredible, or to post a toob video showing one thing and saying another.

There is no certainty except learning for yourself.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

Tom Lauten

Thanks guys...

"Verofied"? I like it....

I got a breadboard but to be honest it seems like Greek to me. I have enough trouble with schematics perf/vero layouts and PCBs without learning another alchemy...suppose I should have a go though.

Oh, I thought this was going to be a political discussion. "Lennon read a book on Marx", etc.

Ok, great stuff...built the Trotsky, thanks Deadastronaut!

Only thing is that the volume pot works the wrong way around. Clockwise is low volume and anti clockwise increases. I tried switching wires to lug 1 & 3.... No work at all....I admit it, I'm flummoxed!

You've got the schematic, don't you? I am always infuriated by people passing up learning and brain exercise in favour of a done layout, wasted opportunity, etc.

Tom Lauten

WOW!

Not sure why I shy away from forums.

:icon_rolleyes:

I suppose everyone one should do things your way...perfectly reasonable...

Well I get reminded of a documentary, where elderly cocoa farmers got to taste chocolate for the first time in their life. 60+ years of farming some weird beans, not even knowing what they are.

This isn't a way of life for me, or a career. It's a hobby that I already have precious little time for. I build because I'm curious and I'd rather have the satisfaction of construction rather than buying complete pedals. Which is also a point, I use the pedals for when I play guitars that I build...when I'm not playing harmonica or creating animatronic creatures or prosthetics which is what I do for a living. I don't need to have an informal education in electronics, I don't have the time or interest, I am too busy otherwise...it's fun, what it's supposed to be, nothing more. Not everyone can or wants to get into something as deeply as others...AND.....it isn't saving lives...it's building little electronic circuits to make funny noises while one plays ANOTHER hobby thing through them....perspective.

hmmm weird...should be ok.  on the plus side at least it works.. ;D

don't get hung up on backwards pots, i do that a lot, rather than buying 'special' reverse logs... ;)

i know what it does... ;)

but it should be ok.....very strange.. :)

Oh.. come on guys! let's play nice! Normally a volume pot is wired as follows: keep the pot in front of you with the shaft pointing up :) from left to right it's 1,2,3 lug 1 goes to ground / lug 2 goes to the output jack and lug 3 is connected to signal coming from the board.

"If I could make noise with anything, I was going to"

deadastronaut

+1...but even wired backwards it should work.... ???

Thanks guys...I will review what I have done...hmmmm...I wonder if I have used a duff or reverse pot by some weird fluke....

Gonna try squeezing a Big Muff tone stack on there (somewhere) as the switch in it's "less bright" mode is super-muddy to my ears.
