I found this. Momentary dpdt necessary.

"Momentary dpdt" not necessary. see how "C3" and "A4" are empty, and "A1" and "C6" are commoned to ground? so, wire a SPDT momentary with "B" to ground, and latching A to mom A, latching C to mom C. (that might make more sense if converted to N/O and N/C.)

you could put dpdt latching in the first spot, use the second pole to switch between status leds, dc voltage source required.

The latest schematic works by grounding the input. This will be fine most of the time, but might not play nice with the odd pedal - some op-amps like the LT072 will melt if you ground their output for a while. Some/most designs add a series resistor to the output to stop this from happening.

Duck - have you ever seen a momentary SPDT footswitch?

sam - I can, in all honesty, say no, I haven't seen a live one. but I would imagine them to look a bit like these .....

or, at a pinch, one of these .....

Cool - wasn't meant as a criticism, I just haven't ever come across one. Looks like they are not quite exotic as I thought.

Hi!

I've just registered on here because I'm after making somewhat of a clone of the Shut Up pedal that was shown earlier in this thread. I've done a lot of reading and trying to understand the switches and routing to ground to mute the guitar signal. Using the information on beavis audio (and borrowing their images) I've come up with this.

A few questions...

1. Will this work in the same vein as the shut up. As in - When DPDT Latching is in position 1, the SPDT Momentary will act like a killswitch, that is when tapped, Tip is routed to ground and sound goes away. Opposite to this when DPDT Latching is in position 2, Tip will be grounded UNTIL SPDT Momentary is activated and sound is allowed to travel the circuit.

2. Do I need the green 'wire' from the Output ground to the power supply?

3. Do I need any resistors to avoid popping, which is mentioned in this article? (http://www.muzique.com/news/simple-kill-switch/) And if so where would they live?

Sorry if all these are obvious questions. I just want to make sure I understand the fundamentals before I crack on.

Thanks in advanced.

I don't think the resistors in the link are there to stop popping, at least not in this circuit. I wouldn't worry about them. Unless this box causes some kind of issue for you, when used with other pedals. You'll need practice soldering anyway.

Diagram looks fine.

If you do want to insert resistors, you'd need to place one on tip of each jack, run the red line from the new resistor, to the switch where the blue line currently goes. The blue one would essentially stay, but connect to the resistor not the tip of the jack.

Hope you follow, can draw a diagram when I get to a computer if required.

Welcome to the game.

nayf - welcome. I love picking on newcomers.

have a look at belyheart's dia above a few posts. see the symbols used for the electrical representation of his switches? translate your wants/needs/desires/thinks from the mechanical of the beavis to the electrical of the diysb, and all will be revealed.

if you are going any further with 'stomp'boxes, you'll use these dias over and over, so get them right now and everyone will know what you are driving at.

you don't need the green wire, it doesn't have to be green, but you will fit it to your build anyway.
