Potentiometer Question??

I got a question that might sound dumb to some of you but I was always told no question is a dumb question. Anyway, I'm building a pedal for a friend and he doesn't want a stomp switch, but wants the volume pot to turn on and off. Now I've found on/off pots but cant find one of the right value. I know you can put 2 resistors in series to equal the value you need but can I somehow add a resistor in series with the pot to make it the value i need since a pot is essentially a resistor? And if this is possible, how would I put it in series, lug 1 to lug 3?

If you can find a stereo pot of half the value you can connect it in series to itself.
