High gain build popping

^  Yup.    The final thing, really, is just the fact that a high gain circuit will amplify ANYTHING that it 'hears', and will thump no matter what...honestly, I've never made a distortion that didn't have SOME 'click' or 'thump' to it, even tho there was NO DC on the output and no reason for it other than mechanical.    I'd be hard-pressed to tell you that you can make it silent...maybe if you wanted to do electronic switching of some sort?

That's a project in itself, but might be something you'd be into?
