Recently I came across the Moog Minifooger Overdrive pedal ( http://www.moogmusic.com/products/minifoogers/mf-drive ), which purports to have an OTA based gain stage.

Has anyone come across drive pedals that are OTA based? I can't tell if it's being used to compress the gain further...or even use it as an expander. Any thoughts?

The AMS-100 VCD (voltage-controlled distortion) module in issue #4 of DEVICE, that I have posted on my page ( http://hammer.ampage.org/ ), uses a 3080 as its distortion element.  I think I made one or two some 30 years ago, and it was a credible soft-distortion.  The 3080 is known for not handling signals above 100mv or so with aplomb.
