Hi,

building an MXR 90 from tonepad.  specs out a 2N4126 npn transistor which has been discontinued.  anyone know of a direct replacement?

Keen's Second Law says that when in doubt, use a 2N5088.

That is *wrong* in this case, as the 2N4126 is a PNP, not an NPN like the 2N5088. But the principle is correct. For most small signal bipolar transistors, one is about as good as another. The 2N4126 is an unexceptional small signal PNP. A 2N3906 would work fine there, as would a 2N5086, 2N5087, 2N4250, 2N4125, and many, many others.

LOOK AT THE ACTUAL PINOUT OF THE DEVICE YOU GET AND MAKE SURE THE PINS GO IN THE MATCHING HOLES.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

RG thankx.  I just realized that the 2n4126 i stated was incorrect..... dahh.  I got confused by a website that had a replacement stating a 2N3904 which is an NPN, which isn;t correct.

thankx for the info..
