Death by Audio Robot Clone question (4p3t)

Hello,

   I am currently in the process of cloning this pedal. I am a little confused with the 4p3t switch. The wiring diagram shows only 3 poles in the middle but when I do a search for 4p3t switches, all I find are switches with 4 poles in the middle. Also, The layout calls for grounding outer pins 2,3,5,6 and 11. Do I combine these all into one ground wire and solder it into the fround coming off the board?? Just a bit stumped here, any help would be appreciated. Here is the link for the layout. Notice only 3 poles for 4p3t.

Try doing a search for 3P4T instead. I think you'll have better luck. The switch label in the diagram is incorrect.

The "P" is for poles (or "poles in the middle" as you stated). These are your commons for the throws, or "T"'s. The T's represent how many connection points are attributed for each pole.

The rotary switches that are commonly seen in pedal applications are usually of the 12 total connection points, not counting the commons. That's to say; 1P12T, 2P6T, 3P4T, or 4P3T. The beauty of the Alpha type switches is that there is a secondary, tabbed washer underneath the nut and locking washer, which allows you to customize the throws. That way, if you need 3 poles, but only 2 throws, you can set the tab to block the rotation to two positions.

Thanks digi. what about the outer pins?? It calls for pins 2,3,5,6 and 11 to be grounded. Would you link those up with the main ground coming off the board or with the 9v ground.?? It would only be 3 wires coming off the switch with 2 and 3 connected and 5 and 6 connected.
