Does the migration to SMD mean that cap-type debate will become moot?

I have seen standard through-hole electrolytics being used on some SMD boards. No idea why. Maybe there is an issue there.

At work we have some amps that have both smd and through hole on them. The through hole is mainly large caps in the 1000uF and above range. The largest I have in front of me for smd is 470uF. That may be the reason. Those amps are mainly older designs though too.

Floor-mat at the front entrance to my former place of employment. Oh... the irony.
