Can I use log pots when schematic calls for linear?

would there be any "negatives" in doing so?   thank you!

Yes.  Will you be able to easily dial in the sounds you want?  Maybe, maybe not.  Taper doesn't change the value of the pot as a resistance.  It merely alters how change is distributed around the full rotation.

The conventional wisdom is to use what you have on hand, and swap for another taper if you don't like the dial ability.

I am at the point where the little schematics I am working on need a volume etc ..I need to learn how to omit a resistor and replace with a pot

for example, I am working on the EP preamp and the directions say just lose the 100K input resistor and replace it with a pot ..yeah all fine and dandy if you know what your doing lol

I am guessing I take out the 100k, shorten the vero by one length, then run the input signal to lug 3? output signal from lug 2? leave lug 1 alone or send it to ground?

there is another layout of the same echoperx where the 1 meg is taken out and replaced by a 500K but the 1meg is in the very middle of the vero layout

I am still following the flow of the lpb1 lolol ..you guys are the kids who got A's in calculus and physics in college because this stuff gets hard quick ..

Copy that, Mark Hammer-

i have several logs on hand.... so, what the heck. i can always swap em out later.   thank you!

You can just try connecting different resistors between the wiper and ground to change the pot law slightly. Alternatively, you can strap a transistor accross the pot and control that from another pot - see HS & R Panner / Gate from Sept 1988.
