I'm looking for a way to add pedals i used rarely to my board. But in the the middle of the chain without having to unplug and use longer patch leads.

I'm looking to make a simple patch box with a send / return.

Could anyone point me in the direction of a schematic?

many thanks

You could use a simple true bypass looper. This one has an LED and a switch for bypassing the effects loop.

You could also use switching jacks. A simple box with four jacks. In, out, send, return. When you have nothing plugged into the send, signal goes from in to out. When you insert a cable into the send, you route your signal to the additional pedals.

Thanks for that.

to make a simple version something like this? Or am I completely wrong?

You'll need something that breaks the IN-->OUT connections when you hook up the send/return loop.  ATM, you have everything shorted to everything else.

Try something like this:

With nothing in the send/receive jacks, the input is routed directly to the output.  If you insert a loop into the send/receive jacks, the signal is diverted through whatever the loop is connected to.  (For clarity, the sleeve/ground connections aren't shown.  Just connect them all together.)
