My grandfather gave me one of his old portable reel to reels. I decided to plug my guitar into the mic input on the machine and out of the speaker it gave some crazy sounding fuzz!

After I went to plug the headphone out from the reel to reel to the input of my amp and it just sounded killer but the gain is too hot, I didn't want to blow out my amp.

So my question is how can I make this into an effects pedal?

There is speaker out (which has a very low level when plugged into my amp) and there is a headphone out (which has too much gain). Any advice on what to do next??

Use the headphone out and put a potentiometer on the signal to reduce the level.
Look at the lava rim volume pot and wire like that. (see wiki page at top for more info on how to wire the pot).

What is this lava rim pot?
Doesn't matter.  Take a 100K pot and wire it like a volume control - input tip to top, output tip to wiper, both sleeves to bottom.

You're not going to hurt the amp even at full output from that hole, though.  It might sound horrible, but that's the point, no?

Why yes it is! Thanks
