Where's the best place to put a pulldown resistor?

I ran a 1M from the input side of the input cap to ground, I still get a loud pop when turning effect on.  In case it matters, this is a positive ground PNP unit with no LED, DPDT footswitch.  Standard stuff.

Try another pulldown after the output cap.
