What you need to get rid of switch popping is some sort of connection between the circuit input and output to ground when the effect is off . For the output , the volume pot takes care of this , while with this switching scheme , the input is also grounded when the effect is off , so it should be useless to add a pulldown resistor ?

I've found a pull down is necessary on the circuit input, even using the switching scheme shown. There is otherwise a fraction of a second during switching when the input to the circuit is left floating..
