Hi, I am new to the stomp box world and i want to get into building my own stomp box before I get into that I thought I should learn to mod one first, So I just did the Boss DS-1 mod following this post.

http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=106243.0

I have completed the mod and put it back together. But, when I plug in the power supply it wont work. So, I unplugged the power supply and the thing kicks on to my surprise and the mod works perfectly!? Now before I burn the pedal because its gotta be some kinda voodoo or something that it works with no power. Can someone tell me if this is supposed to work like this or what in the world did I do to mess this pedal up? is there some crazy short or something?

This is the first time I have done anything like this so please help me.

The good news is that it works perfectly when not plugged in to power supply. So we would suspect something about the switch jack. We also want to make sure that the power supply you are using is right, because there are some that have an opposite polarity, so did this power supply work with this pedal before we applied the mod?

Yes the power supply worked fine with the unit before the mod.

Here's a link(https://www.jhspedals.com/products/mod-shop/boss-ds-1-synth-drive/feed/ ) to the site that does the mod. There's two videos demoing the Mod, the first one it appears that there might not be a power supply hooked up, in the second video there's clearly a power supply hooked up, I am puzzled by this.

Cool. So, my only thought at this point is to gently examine the power jack without the power supply connected to look for mechanical issues such as pinched wires or bent metal parts. If you can get a photo up somewhere with a closeup of the power jack that would probably help a lot.

Do you mean it works with a battery but not with a power supply? It would be some crazy voodoo if it worked with no power at all.

I've had a similar issue in the past and I cant remember how or what it was but the pedal kicked into life when unplugged and the voltages where dropping. Then went off......
I could be barking up the wrong tree completely, If so disregard this post.
Ma throats as dry as an overcooked kipper.
