Greetings All   :icon_biggrin:

Quickly I want to thank everyone who has posted a how too, try this, or this did not work, all has been helpful in my journey of pedal building.

My question:

I am building a npn fuzz face with 2N3094 transistors, with A500K pot on tone, and A5K on Fuzz, not bad sound, but I received my B1K pots today and threw one on (using breadboard) and nothing, started to smell something frying and unplugged.  Tried again with another new B1k pot and nothing, went back to A5k works fine, I bought 10 new B1K and not working.  Anything I am missing using the B1k pots? Thought this should have been straight forward, but perplexed with this issue?  I did test the B1K's with multimeter and all looks good.

Welcome!

So, hard to say exactly, but could you post a picture of the circuit you are building? Maybe you need to add a resistor in series since you are dropping the resitance by 4K? If I'm reading correctly, that is.

PRR

Welcome.

Need to see the plan you think you are building, and maybe a look at what you actually built. Before that you should triple-check your parts connections and actual resistor values. (Fer example: 6.8K and 68 look a lot the same in bad light.)

PRR, here is schematic I am using to build.

I will post my build in a little bit.  As you mentioned verifying the correct components is as must when trying to resolve an issue. I have done this a few times, but will not hurt to do again.  I find it strange how all works with the A5K Pot and just swapping to the B1K has an issue, what is anyone's thoughts about swapping the Pot out for a 1k resistor? I appreciate the ideas and direction to try.  In addition, the 20uf capacitor from the B1K Pot i have a 22uf in place of that one, but not thinking it would cause this issue.

Thanks dead for the layout, came home and verified and tested components, setup is good.  However, nothing with B1K at all, then I swap for a A5K and sound at about that last 10% using a 9v battery voltage 6.5, then tried a fresh battery and same results except this time with the B1K had a small crackle at 99%.  Almost as the B1K is too small if that is possible.  Any other thoughts or ideas? I did have the input cap 2.2uf with + going to Q1 Base and - to signal in.  This does not make sense to me, however, I do not have the experience like yourself and everyone else here.
