Which of the top two did you like best Renegadrian?
And why. What sonic phenomenon did you like.

As you can see, the two are very similar, only small differences. First I learned valvewizard lesson and simply translated to FETs, then I applied the same principle to a more Fender-y preamp snippet, which I am a maniac of...3rd one adds some tonal changes, to give it more flexibility. I loved the Fender-y one, having the boostrap cap on a switch gives you that extra boost that you wouldn't get otherwise (which is not bad at all at the end, your typical Fender tube stage with FETs)

Ok guys thanks.
I messed some with this and tweeked it to my taste. Given the available to me parts.
It is slightly changed from Tejfolvondanones and Renegadrians versions.
I tried to maintain the gate voltage above the source voltage idea.
The vesrion on the left of the diagram sounded unbiased to me.
The left of diagram sounded better to me.
I guess it's subjective.
I am greatful for the idea and the chance to create yet another drive.
Duck said that should be my next project and low, he was right.
Thanks guys again.

geeze, distortion threads get old fast these days, eh.

here is a bukket of perf layouts for anyone interested, one with mill bypass, and the other not. values are as shown on kippers schem above. neither layout yet built. B/W version supplied on request.

for my hearings, with those resistor values, the only combo I could get making with the distortion was a pair of J210's [2 jay two tens]. all the others were spitty or misbaised, some even went backwards. (I couldn't be bothered messing w/ trimms.)
don't make me draw another line.

After a long time i came back and worked on this circuit. I made some adjustments and it works great. I came up with this working circuit.

P1 acts as again control: when the resistance is max the gain is at minimum. I left the more gain switch in so you can get more overdrive from it. I have to tell you that the sound is really awesome in my opinion. When gain set to minimum and the MORE GAIN switch is off you get a boost with slight overdrive. Adding more gain with the MORE GAIN switch on you can go to a really creamy overdrive. Also it has plenty of gain so you can use it as stand alone booster.
