You don't need a fancy nick name when you shred like that.
Where are you up to Rob.
Have you tried a Shaka V without the srpp.?

You mean one's void should be kept devoid of voids? Or is that to be avoided?

A void devoid of voids would collapse inward on itself infinitely and generate infinite anti-energy 'energy that can annihilate all other forms of energy' and destroy the universe. Think of it as the "Big Bang Theory" in reverse... with tails! So, yeah I would try to avoid having a void that is devoid of voids at all cost!

if your car could travel at the speed of light and you turned on the headlights, would they work?
Would the photons get a boost and travel faster than light and if so what does light traveling faster than light look like, is it brighter? Would your headlights appear as a burst of gamma-rays? If you are traveling at the speed of light do things still have color?
Doesn't matter what you did to get it... If it sounds good, then it is good!

jim, your eyes would be in the back of your head..  ;D

rich: been suffering with this poxy flu....its nasty, feeling dizzy n stuff, so just been dossing ..
but its 1:15am now and making a start....to the annoyance of mrs astro who gave me the flu in the first place...pay back.!!! :icon_twisted:

ben: cool,nice shredding,  :icon_twisted:
yeah i had a boss OD-1 (yellow) into a marshall years ago, which was a good all rounder..
so yes i can see the potential in that.

i have a marshall AVT275 which is ok, but the 2 drive channels hiss like f.. to the point of unusable..
so i just use the 2 clean channels and add my own dirt...its much much cleaner...
i think i need to finish off my bench amp for testing stuff...hmmmm....

anyway.. to the breadboard...cheers guys.  8)

the old bluesbreaker does sound pretty cool...so i'll do that first..

update: tried the BB...didnt sound right to my ears...

so i went back a step, and re tweaked the TS..

now it has plenty of bite and gain...quite nice.

i used the AMZ tone 4 control (thanks jack )

and boosted the overall output for when i roll the drive off and want a clean boost..

its rather nice....get it on ya breadboards.. ;)

heres where i am....cant do clips at the mo.

will mic up amp tomorrow if im up to it. still feel rough as f... :o

Just wondering if you need R9 and the Vb connection? Pin 1 "out" is DC coupled to pin 5 "in" with R8, shouldn't that provide Vb?

Nitpicking, there are some neat ideas here with the tone control & asymmetric clipping- I'm betting it sounds great  ;D
Some people drink from the fountain of knowledge, others just gargle.

deadastronaut

russ, yep, your right...i'll remove R9.

going to add a switch for ASS Clipping and SYM .

best of both worlds.. ;)

Hey Rob and Russ- I just pulled it and got a big volume jump. It still sounds the same to me, just louder. Probably a good idea for those low gain "semi-clean" boosting options... as well as eliminating a part.

Also Rob, I don't know if it makes a difference but your C6 can also tie up with VB (I think?)

hi ben, yeah i tried C6 on vb and gnd...didn't seem to make any diff..

likewise with R9...no difference..

so you got a big vol jump when pulling R9?.... i didnt....hmmm...

edit: yep just checked pulling R9...no difference at all..

Pretty big boost, not so much that I don't like it, I think it's probably good. I do wonder if it is there to tame some possibility of opamp clipping to avoid Rattishness? I'll let the pros explain that one.

I think I will leave it out for now, mine has actually become a hybrid of yours and the SD-1, working on a layout now for 3-knobs in a 1590B. It's been too long since i've owned a good ole TS type and i've never been 100% happy with any of them except my trusty SD-1 and even then, I always wished it had a big clunkety-clickety-clackety footswitch that pokes my foot right thru my shoe

check over your bread wiring...it shouldn't have a vol boost at all...

mine is exactly as schemo.

edit: with the ass/sym clipping you get the old traditional ts as well as the high gain bite too... :icon_twisted:

Maybe because I left R8 (yours) as a 10k from the SD-1 instead of changing to the TS 1k?

maybe... :-\

set it as per schemo values  (remove R9) and it should be the same..

You're not the only one. Barely distorts at all for me. But I only have SS amp. You might try a Marshall Drive and/or Shred Master and see how they sound. I haven't tried either yet.

Quick question: How many of the caps absolutely must be electrolytic?
I got Electro for C3 & C4 but all the rest are monolithic ceramic, am I gonna be OK?
