I came across these videos on soldering.
Everyone will learn *something* from these, even if it's how to be an awesome presenter.
As one of the YT posters said back from "when America was great" (Early 1980's);  I hope you know where that comes from.

According to the water analogy of electricity, transistor leakage is caused by holes.

Strewth, Rob...

Those take me back. I saw many of these in my early days in the factory... There was also a similar series produced by Royston Electronics (Australian-made soldering gear).

Probably back in the days when we had a real electronics industry in Australia!
Amazing how these things pop-up on the internet.   Found a video with me in audience at ABC studios from around 1982.

The industry is somewhat depressed these days for sure,  but nobody would want to pay $5,000+ for a basic telly.  There is still a little bit of niche market electronics manufacturing going on, though, medical, communications, and defence mainly. Interestingly there are still a couple of PCB manfacturers operating in Adelaide.

I ran into a friend from the factory (I first met him when I did year 11 high-school work experience back in 1981) in Jaycar last weekend, he's still working there (several generations of owner later)...

Yeah, the assembly houses still seem to keep busy.   I've been in medical for 10+ years.

Yes, I've dealt with those guys.   They do a lot of keypad stuff as well.  They were setting up a clean room at one stage to do specialize work - guess that fits in with the local market.
Not sure about the guys in Adelaide but a lot of companies off-load larger orders off shore now.  They have done that for some time.

Wow, that's a crazy amount of time!
