Using J112 JFET "switch" for buffer/source follower

I don't know enough about FETs to understand why one is referred as a "switch".  Low rds(on)?  Anyway I have a bag of J112s and wondering if there's any reason not to use them as source followers, e.g. on RAT output buffer.

Yes, and yes it makes as perfectly good source follower.
