building a SHO type boost a BS250 instead of a BS170

I've got a few BS250's and I'd like to build up a SHO-like booster -- and instead of the zener diode(s), I just plan on using a red LED akin to the first stage of the ROG Peppermill.  But since the BS250 is a positive ground component, I'm wondering if I need to orient the LED differently with this component.  should I flip it around, or just keep it as it appears in the Peppermill schematic?

I'm not sure whether it'll work with a P-channel FET instead of the BS170. An N-channel FET operates with a positive gate-source voltage while a P-channel FET needs an negative gate-source voltage.

Unlike transistors, MOSFETs are actually conductive in both directions (though you might need to check if the MOSFET has a drain-source diode) so the direction of the LED shouldn't need to be changed
