Does anyone in the UK make laser-etched plastic, metal or decorative wood front panels? (Actually it's for an amp, not a pedal, but ya know)

Sorry can't help you there Merlin.

The only time i've seen a laser etched plastic worthy of an amp was when my bruv inlaw showed me a railway station sign he'd made at his work. Thats all he ever did was make French SNCF signs.
It's a shame he's retired now.
But in the most unlikely places do we find something helpful.

MS lazer engraving and design in Ribchester or there are are a number of online stores.
No idea about cost but the quality of output from these devices seems pretty good to me provided they're fed with a good design file

It's not in UK but tube town in Germany does custom laser engraved face plates for amps for a IMHO reasonable price

Wish I could help. I've used laser engraved panels for amps and pedals for some time, and it's a great technique. You may want to see if you can find a sign and trophy business near you that lasers the graphics. Most businesses that make small signs and plaques for trophies here do most of their work on laser markable metal panels with a color coat on it. The lasers typically can do up to maybe 12" x 18".

A friend of mine from my prior life actually uses a 12x18 CNC laser for his mail order business to cut fast prototype parts, and he's been willing to lase things for me cheaply, so I use him now. There is a >very< good material for this kind of thing available through Johnson Plastics. I don't know if they have a UK branch, or the material is available at other businesses there. It's 0.025" aluminum sheet or - gulp! - 0.005" aluminum sheet coated with pressure sensitive adhesive on one side, and the other side anodized for durability, then coated with a catalyzed coating that is weather and sun-stable in several colors and designed specifically for laser marking. You might look for "laser markable aluminum" sources there in the UK.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

Check out "The Beast".  Julian is well-known in the modular synth world and I gather he can do pretty much anything you want panel-wise.  No personal experience of his work, but from the plaudits at MW, I'd say he's worth a look.
