This popped up in some searches a while back

http://www.zen22142.zen.co.uk/Circuits/Music/siren.htm

So I have questions of course.

Could this be used to power up a vanilla booster. With a rising and falling gain?

I looked at a tau calculator it says 9v. 22k 22uf equates to roughly half a second lag.

So could the transistor be turned on slowly? Using the lag circuit on the base biasing.
Or does this only work with an oscillator?

Hmmm, like a simplified version of what the PLL does with the Loop track and Loop speed business. It does it with the VCO section of the 4046 though.

Stop teasing Dino.
The 4046s are on a slow boat. I hope they arrive this week.

Where did you see that please?

The guitar signal is fed into the phase comparator. The Phase comp signal is passed to the VCO section via the Response pot, and part of the signal is used to charge up a selected cap through the Loop Track pot (consider it a sensitivity pot for this section). The Lag pot sets the discharge time.

The result is comparable to a siren effect. Depending on how sensitive you set the Loop Track, each strike of the strings charges up a selected cap. There are three cap sizes, so three different times available. The Lag pot dictates discharge time within the selected cap time. As the selected cap discharges, it drives the VCO, giving a siren effect. Of course, as each siren wail dies, another strike will juice it up again, and so on.

The sections are outlined in the red squares.

I'll be honest I couldn't tell you what that is doing Dino.

I go watch some demos now.

Meantime I cobbled this drawing together.
Will It do what I hope /\ ?

Thanks

Nobody knows your hopes.

Feeding audio onto electrolytic cap C2 is probably not what you want.

Magic that's a much better scheme Paul.
Hopefully I'll breadboard it mid week.

Really? I did not know that. Can you give me an example of the code? I wouldn't mind going to bed a bit less stoopid tonight. Thanks Marc!

Here's your code...

Interesting trick to foil IMG code interpretation.

Great to know. This allows the transistor to switch off as the cap emptys.
The exact opposite of what I intended.
It makes sense though because the cap is filled by the +supply on the button push and will empty to gnd when the switch is released.

I'm sure it will come in handy at some point.
Thanks guys.
